Night Support Worker

Role:

Bray Women’s Refuge provides Safety, Knowledge, and Support relevant to gender-based violence and abuse and coercive control, primarily by offering short term crisis accommodation to women and children who leave their family home due to domestic violence and abuse in that environment when it is not safe to remain.

This service also provides access to support via telephone helpline to callers requiring information and support in relation to the issue of Domestic Violence and Abuse and the associated needs of callers seeking support.

The refuge provides 24 hour staffing with Night Support Workers providing an onsite presence facilitating therapeutic and well-being activities and offering security and support throughout the SLEEPOVER SHIFT.

The purpose of the job is to support the delivery of an effective range of services at Bray Women’s Refuge including:

o Safety – Ensuring the safety of onsite residents and staff

o Hospitality – including maintaining a safe and clean environment and providing a warm welcome and familiarisation with the setting (Short Term Crisis Accommodation)

o Support Health and Safety within the setting

o Facilitating and supervising onsite activities

o Providing Support as required

Provide a considered response to the needs of resident clients
Facilitate the delivery of appropriate interventions as required
Work as part of a team to ensure the effective safety for women and children experiencing Domestic Violence, Abuse and Coercive Control
Attend all support and team meetings and provide essential input to facilitate reporting and support women and children

Key Areas of Work:

Active Housekeeping (hygiene, health, and safety)
Recording /Reporting and IT skills

Attendance at team and staff meetings, staff supervision and role relevant training

Main Duties:

Service hospitality
Respond professionally and appropriately to the needs of clients
Provide non-directive and non-judgemental information and support as required
Participate in the provision of services as part of the Refuge Team; Support the provision of a safe and relaxed environment for clients
To be observant in providing and encouraging a strict policy of confidentiality at all times within professional boundaries and limitations etc.
To assist in the preparation of rooms for allocation and to ensure that high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained throughout the building and immediate external environment at all times.
To be aware of your own responsibilities under health and safety legislation and to ensure all procedures are clearly understood and acted on.
To communicate information appropriately to support the updating of client records to allow for effective case management.
Attend team and staff meetings and external training as required
Participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal with management and assist in identifying role-related training needs
To act in the best interests of Bray Women’s Refuge at all times and, if requested by management, take on other responsibilities or duties commensurate with the role
Provide relevant and appropriate support for admission to refuge
Signpost and refer to both internal and external resources
Professional befriending and support of client needs and care
Support the development and delivery of service programmes and actions.
Support the development and delivery of psychoeducational programmes with-in the setting
Accompany clients to on-site meetings and provide effective support as required to ensure and beneficial outcomes
Be Trauma Informed and Safety Aware and accommodate care and service delivery from this perspective at all times
Ensure effective communication at all times
Attend team meetings, staff meetings and regular supervision

The Person Specification for Night Support Worker

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Third level qualification – Health and Social Care (QQI 6 as a minimum)
2-year similar experience in a residential service or family support
IT skills and experience to include Salesforce sector bespoke CRM, and Microsoft Office 365

Desirable:

Knowledge and understanding of the nature of domestic sexual and gender-based violence and experience of working with women and children (preferably in a residential setting)
Knowledge and awareness of issues impacting health, mental health and well-being including PTSD, addictions, and other complex behaviours and/or coping strategies creating challenges
Understanding and knowledge of conflict resolution and/or negotiation skills
Knowledge of social inclusion, poverty, and discrimination and other barriers to full social participation
Ability to provide empathy and to treat the clients in a non-judgmental way
