Student Services & Welfare Officer – Babel Academy of English
Full-time, permanent | €32,000–€35,000 | On-site | Dublin 1

Are you naturally outgoing, organised and the kind of person who notices what needs to be done, and gets on with it?

Babel Academy of English is looking for a Student Services, Liaison & Welfare Officer to become a central part of our school community.

This isn't a role where you'll spend the whole day behind a desk. You'll be one of the first people our students meet when they arrive at Babel and an important point of contact throughout their time with us.

We're looking for someone who will actively get to know our students, start conversations, make people feel welcome and help create a friendly, positive atmosphere in the school.

The right person will be:

Proactive and self-motivated – you notice what is happening around you and take action, rather than waiting to be asked.
Friendly, confident and outgoing – you genuinely enjoy meeting students from all over the world, starting conversations and helping people feel welcome and included.
A confident communicator – you'll regularly deliver student orientations and speak to groups, so you should be comfortable with public speaking.
Exceptionally attentive to detail – you'll be responsible for important student information, registrations, records and welfare matters, so accuracy and follow-through are essential.
Approachable and empathetic – students need to feel comfortable coming to you with questions, concerns or problems.
Organised and dependable – you'll balance student-facing responsibilities with administration, welfare matters and social activities.
Committed and looking for a long-term role – we're looking for someone who wants to settle into the position and become a lasting part of the Babel team.

What you'll be doing

You'll be at the heart of student services at Babel and a main point of contact for our international students, playing an important role in their experience from their first day through to departure.

Your responsibilities will include:

Welcoming students, visitors and agents and helping create a friendly, positive atmosphere in the school
Delivering student orientations and inductions, presenting key school, practical and welfare information to groups of new students
Actively engaging with students throughout the school day – starting conversations, checking in with students and encouraging participation in school life
Acting as the first point of contact for student questions and enquiries in person, by phone and by email
Acting as our designated Student Welfare Officer, providing first-line support and escalating sensitive matters when appropriate
Supporting students with practical matters including accommodation, visa, banking and PPS information
Managing student registrations, records and administration accurately
Managing the main school email inbox and directing enquiries appropriately
Organising our adult student social programme and attending monthly student events
Gathering student feedback and preparing monthly welfare and feedback reports
Supervising reception interns and helping ensure reception runs smoothly
Working closely with our Operations and Academic teams
Supporting the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of our Eden Quay building, identifying and reporting building issues and helping keep the school safe, welcoming and well maintained
Participating in the school's emergency phone rota

Essential requirements

Excellent spoken and written English
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with confidence communicating with people from different cultures and backgrounds
Strong administrative and organisational skills
Confidence speaking to groups and delivering student orientations
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to handle sensitive student matters with discretion and professionalism
Good judgement and an understanding of when a welfare concern should be escalated
Ability to work independently, use initiative and take ownership
Previous experience in a customer-facing, administrative, student services or similar role
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and confidence learning new systems
Right to work in Ireland

Previous experience in education, student services or an international environment is an advantage, but isn't essential.

The practical details

Location: Babel Academy of English, Eden Quay, Dublin 1
Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:15–17:15 (1-hour break)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Salary: €32,000–€35,000 per year, depending on experience
Additional requirement: Participation in the school's 24/7 emergency phone rota

Relevant training will be provided as appropriate for the role, including areas such as first aid, fire warden training, safeguarding and customer service.
