Context for Appointment
At our Aungier Street Community Hub, YMCA
Dublin provides early years and schhool age
childcare alongside youth and community
services.

We are recruiting a Room Leader to help create
an inclusive, play-inspired environment where
children can learn, develop and thrive.

Role Summary
The Room Leader will oversee the day-to-day
running of an early years room at Aungier
Street. The role provides positive leadership
and support to colleagues and helps ensure
children’s care, development and wellbeing are
supported in line with relevant standards and
YMCA Dublin policies.

Employment Details
Role: Early Years Room Leader
Reporting to: Childcare Manager
Location: Aungier Street, Dublin 2
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: €18.41 per hour
Start date: As soon as possible, subject
to successful Garda Vetting

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Children’s Development and Wellbeing
Build positive and supportive relationships with children and encourage their participation in
activities and discussions.
Interact with children in a respectful and nurturing way and support their social and emotional
development.
Help create an environment that supports children’s physical, social, emotional and language
development, including emergent literacy.
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and follow relevant childcare regulations, standards
and service policies.
Attend to children’s personal care and hygiene needs, including handwashing, toilet training and
changing soiled clothing.

Planning and Delivering Activities
Plan and deliver play-focused activities based on children’s needs, interests and developmental
levels.
Lead and support age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, music, games and sports.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Delivering Activities
Provide opportunities that encourage creativity, teamwork, curiosity, exploration and problem-
solving.
Maintain records for individual children, including daily observations, activities, meals and
medication administered.
Attend regular meetings relating to curriculum, activities and child development.

Maintaining the Childcare Environment
Support the cleanliness and organisation of the childcare environment, including laundry,
cleaning, dishwashing, sanitising toys and equipment, and changing linens.

Leadership and Professional Practice
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating respectful, kind and responsible behaviour, and
provide leadership and support to colleagues.
Maintain professional, ethical and responsible conduct.
Participate in workshops, conferences, team meetings and practical training relating to playwork,
safeguarding and other relevant areas.

Key Responsibilities

Working with Families
Provide parents and carers with updates on children’s play experiences, respond to concerns and
encourage family involvement in the programme.
Maintain open and cooperative relationships with children’s families.

Compliance and Other Duties
Follow YMCA Dublin policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, and health
and safety.
Be flexible in undertaking additional tasks related to the delivery of YMCA Dublin services.
Carry out other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Childcare Management team.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements
Minimum Level 7 qualification recognised by DCDE
1 year experience in a childcare setting.

Enthusiasm for supporting children through play.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
