Purpose of the post
To provide technical and operational support for Marymounts ICT infrastructure and systems. The ICT Officer will contribute to reliable, secure, and effective technology services that support clinical care delivery, administrative operations, and regulatory compliance across the hospital and hospice, working under the direction of the ICT Manager.
1. ICT Support & Service Delivery
- Provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd level support to end-users on all ICT related tasks remotely, by phone, and at deskside
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and software faults
- Manage external support companies in relation to escalated ICT helpdesk calls
- Participate in ICT Department on-call rota
- Be responsible for the management and supervision of ICT support staff/contractors
2. Infrastructure & Systems Management
- Support server, desktop and AV environments, including hardware (computers, printers, mobile devices, AV hardware, and telecoms), applications and operating systems, escalating to the ICT Manager or specialist vendors where required
- Manage hardware and software components of virtual server configuration in an MS operating system environment
- Manage cloud-based Office 365 environment, including infrastructure, identity, device, security and threat management
- Ensure ICT support systems are patched and kept up to date
- Manage network, workplace and hardware infrastructure in an expanding outsourcing environment
- Ensure the integrity of the technical infrastructure and systems architecture
3. User Account & Security Management
- Setup and maintenance of user accounts and services in line with organisational policies
- Implement and maintain information security requirements
4. Project Management & Strategic Planning
- Plan, manage and deliver ICT programmes and projects as agreed with the ICT Manager
- Take ownership of ICT projects to successful completion
- Deploy project and performance management methodologies to ensure timely, effective and cost-efficient systems delivery
- Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of current and new architecture against possible alternatives
- Represent the ICT Support team at meetings as directed by the ICT Manager
5. Business Continuity & Risk Management
- Ensure adequate backup and recovery strategies and systems are in place and reviewed regularly
- Project manage the development, rehearsal, enhancement and maintenance of business continuity plans/disaster recovery policy
- Promote a quality and risk management culture in information systems delivery
- Maintain system requirements to ensure operational risk is managed appropriately
- Support the audit of electronic audit trails
6. Documentation, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all documentation pertaining to the hospital's ICT Support Service is in place and updated as required
- Ensure familiarity with and compliance with the hospital's quality, risk and audit policies
- Develop ICT-related audit practice and policies as per annual audit schedule
- Maintain standards of excellence in developing, implementing and supporting ICT solutions, policies and protocols
7. Education, Training & Professional Development
- Participate in the induction and training of newly appointed staff
- Monitor and keep up to date with developments in ICT practices and technologies
- Take responsibility for seeking out opportunities for professional development
Eligibility Criteria Qualifications and/ or experience
The candidate must, on the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office:
- Hold a Level 8 (or higher) Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) major academic qualification in Information Communication Technology or associated field. Or relevant/equivalent experience
- A minimum of five years' experience in a similar IT/ICT role.
- Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability), for the proper discharge of the office.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience in supervising ICT staff, managing external vendors, or leading technical project teams in a healthcare or regulated environment
Technical Requirements
Have hands-on experience supporting ICT infrastructure environments, with a willingness to develop skills in more advanced areas over time, including:
- Implementing, troubleshooting, administering and maintaining client operating systems, including endpoint management and OS deployment for:
- Windows 10/11, macOS, iOS, Linux and Android
- Managing and maintaining enterprise-grade client hardware, mobile devices and peripheral equipment.
- Implementing, maintaining and supporting on-premises and cloud ICT infrastructure, including:
- Servers: Working knowledge of Windows Server environments (AD DS, file and print services); familiarity with Hyper-V virtualisation is an advantage; exposure to Linux server distributions and Microsoft SQL Server desirable but not essential
- Directory & Identity: Active Directory, Group Policy, Entra ID
- Networking: Familiarity with DNS, DHCP, VLANs, LAN/WAN concepts, wireless networks, and basic network troubleshooting; exposure to firewall management, network segmentation, and SD-WAN is an advantage
- Security & Disaster Recovery: Endpoint and server protection, VPNs, storage technologies, and backup solutions (e.g. Veeam) including disaster recovery and business continuity
- Managing Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure environments, including Entra ID, hybrid identity, AD/Entra Connect, Conditional Access, Intune (MDM/MAM), Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and related security configurations.
Post Desirable Requirements
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate experience or qualifications in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience with enterprise networking solutions including Aruba Networks switching and routing platforms
- Experience supporting and administering security and networking solutions from Fortinet including NAC such as Aruba ClearPass
- Experience designing, implementing and supporting professional Audio-Visual (AV) and integrated ICT systems, including technologies from vendors such as Extron, Crestron, and Barco, encompassing meeting room systems, lecture capture, digital signage and integrated control systems
- Experience with media streaming technologies and television distribution systems, including DVB standards and IPTV platforms
- Experience developing and supporting ICT solutions within healthcare education, clinical training, or patient care delivery environments
- Knowledge of Irish healthcare ICT standards and regulatory compliance frameworks, including HSE-aligned governance models
- Familiarity with ICT service management frameworks such as ITIL
- Awareness of data protection and regulatory obligations, including GDPR compliance requirements
- Relevant industry certifications such as:
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA Switching and Routing)
