Full job description

Position Summary

The position has responsibility for co-ordination and general management of the well-being and health of Friars, both individually and the collective community. The decision of individual Friars to avail of your services is at their discretion.

Responsibilities:

· Advise the Provincial Leadership about possible adaptions to properties where necessary to promote health and safety or to prolong the independence of an individual Friar

· Advise individual Friars on healthcare needs and lifestyle choices

· Advocate for the Friars

· Monitor individual health care needs and the impact on their Friary

· Management of medications

· Liaise with all external health care service providers delivering services to the Friars e.g. GPs, pharmacists, consultants, physiotherapists etc.

· Where necessary accompany Friars to medical appointments

· Maintain all appropriate records ensuring that necessary consent is obtained, that confidentiality is maintained and GDPR requirements are met at all times.

· Provide general information on health and lifestyle (e.g. presentation at Guardian and Vicar meetings, written material to be displayed in the Friary, information on diet etc to cooks)

· Promote and develop a professional, caring and empathetic approach to each Friary and the particular needs of the individual Friar’s living there.

· Maintain an awareness of available community resources, relevant to the Friar’s needs

· Offer psychological support and / or pastoral care

· Report on a regular basis to Provincial / Council on the general health needs of the Province.

· Where necessary liaise with family members.

· Maintain professional qualifications and knowledge in accordance with pre-approved professional development plan.

· Liaise with, and supervise other members of the healthcare team.

· Other ad-hoc duties as may be required from time to time.

Person specification:

· Have an understanding and willingness to work within the ethos and lifestyle of the Capuchin Franciscans.

· This is a complex, multifacted role, so good organisational skills are essential.

· Must be able to manage your work load independently.

· The healthcare team includes carers in some communities and healthcare admin – oversight and some supervision is required.

· There are approximately 60 members of the Province so a broad clinical knowledge is needed.

· With an aging profile, experience with dementia and dementia care planning is required.

· Must be able to work proactively with the Guardian and be involved in strategic planning.

· There is a need to travel to friaries and nursing homes across the country on a regular basis.

· Some meetings / gatherings in the Province will require attendance for a full week (approx. twice a year).

· Be familiar with Safeguarding requirements and the associated management and support requirements.

· Be able to demonstrate good listening skills and a holistic approach to care.

· Must be able to respect autonomy while ensuring safety and wellbeing.

· Must understand Religious life

· Must be a current member of NMBI.

· Must have a valid permit to work in Ireland

· Must be fluent in written and spoken English.

· Must have a valid driving license and use of a car.

This is a full time position and some flexibility will be required in respect of when hours are worked.
