Full job description

Job Title: Finance Officer

About the Role

B&S Credit Union is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Finance Officer to join our team. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring strong financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and high‑quality reporting across the organisation. The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting strategic decision‑making, enhancing financial controls, and contributing to the continued growth and stability of the Credit Union.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting — Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the Board of Directors.
Regulatory Compliance — Ensure compliance with the Credit Union Act, CBI regulations, and all statutory reporting obligations, completing relevant Central Bank returns on a quarterly and annual basis.
Investment Management — Oversee the Credit Union’s investment portfolio, acting on guidance provided by our Investment Advisors.
Budgeting & Forecasting — Lead annual budgeting, financial planning, and cash‑flow forecasting.
Financial Controls — Maintain strong internal controls, oversee reconciliations, and support audit processes.
Operational Finance Tasks — Carry out daily finance duties including invoice processing, maintaining and reconciling nominal ledgers, preparing expense cheques, and providing support to the Administration team during End‑of‑Day balancing.
Strategic Support — Provide financial insights to support strategic initiatives, lending decisions, and operational improvements.
Team Collaboration — Work closely with management, lending, and operations teams to ensure financial accuracy and efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Professional qualification in accounting (or working towards).
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within financial services.
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks governing Irish credit unions.
Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.
Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to member‑focused service.

Desirable Skills

Payroll Systems — Experience working with payroll software and preparing payroll‑related financial records.
Advanced Excel — Strong Excel capability, including financial modelling, data analysis, and reporting.
Credit Union Systems — Familiarity with credit union banking platforms.
Accounts Payable & Receivable — Experience processing invoices, supplier payments, and member‑related financial transactions.
Nominal Ledger Management — Ability to maintain, reconcile, and analyse nominal ledger activity.
End‑of‑Day Support — Capacity to assist the Administration team with End‑of‑Day balancing and cash‑handling controls.
Audit Preparation — Experience preparing reconciliations, schedules, and documentation for internal and external audits.
Risk & Compliance Awareness — Understanding of operational risk indicators, compliance obligations, and financial control frameworks.
Financial Report Writing — Ability to produce clear, accurate, and well‑structured financial reports for management and the Board.
Data Analysis — Competence in analysing financial trends, variances, and performance indicators.
Process Improvement — Experience identifying efficiencies and enhancing financial workflows.
Team Support — Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to support colleagues across Finance, Admin, Lending, and Operations.
