Full job description

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following office locations Glasgow, Perth or Dublin

Salary: £31,600 - £47,400 (UK) or €41,600 - €62,400 (ROI) + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

Join SSE's Record to Report (R2R) Centre of Excellence as an Assistant Accountant and play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and well-controlled financial information that supports the success of the SSE Group. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about developing their accounting career within a collaborative and supportive environment, working alongside experienced finance professionals across areas including General Ledger, Revenue, Projects and Fixed Assets. You'll contribute to delivering high-quality financial reporting, strengthening financial controls, and driving continuous improvement, while helping to foster a culture where safety, wellbeing, integrity and accountability are at the heart of everything we do.

You will

Support month-end, half-year and year-end reporting activities, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of key financial outputs.
Prepare journals, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting packs, helping to investigate and explain variances and material movements.
Carry out key financial controls and maintain clear documentation, audit trails and supporting evidence to ensure a robust control environment.
Collaborate closely with colleagues across the R2R team, sharing knowledge and supporting safe, consistent and efficient ways of working.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance controls and support continuous improvement initiatives across the function.

You have

Experience in finance, accounting or a related discipline, with progress towards a professional qualification such as ICAS, ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent relevant experience.
A proactive and curious approach, with the confidence to investigate issues, solve problems and escalate risks appropriately.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records, controls and processes.
A collaborative and supportive working style, with a focus on building positive relationships and contributing to a safe, inclusive and high-performing team culture.
