Position Title: Part Time Youth Development Officer

The Employer:

Crosscare is the social care agency of the Dublin Diocese and is a registered charity.

Crosscare delivers services with a servant leadership ethos. Crosscare’s Homeless, Youth, Information and Advocacy Teams support those most in need with Love, Respect and Excellence.

Crosscare exists to support people and families when they face difficult challenges in life and when they find it hard to get the help they need. Crosscare focuses on helping people when they need it most or when they can’t find support anywhere else.

Location: Lucan Youth Service

Work Schedule: 19 Hours a week

Contract: Permanent

Salary: €39,544 PRO RATA

Reporting to: Service Manager

The Role: We are seeking a passionate, creative, and committed Youth Worker to join our team in Lucan Youth Service. This role is dedicated to supporting young people who are most at risk of social exclusion by delivering high-quality youth work programmes that promote personal development, inclusion, creativity, and positive life outcomes.

The successful candidate will build meaningful relationships with young people, develop engaging programmes, and work collaboratively with families, community organisations, and statutory services to ensure young people receive the support they need to thrive.

General Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality youth work programmes and initiatives for young people, particularly those experiencing disadvantage or social exclusion.
Spend approximately 70% of working hours in direct face-to-face engagement with young people.
Develop, coordinate and facilitate projects including the Music Programme and the Big Tree Arts Programme.
Plan and deliver group work, one-to-one interventions, outreach activities, residentials, workshops and community-based programmes.
Ensure all programmes align with recognised Youth Work principles, the Youth Work Process, and informal education methodologies.
Support young people to build confidence, resilience, leadership skills and positive relationships.
Effectively manage challenging behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed approaches where appropriate.

Partnership & Community Engagement

Develop and maintain positive relationships with local schools, community organisations, youth diversion projects, family support services and other relevant agencies.
Work collaboratively across Lucan Youth Service and Crosscare programmes.
Represent the service at local networks, meetings and committees when required.
Promote inclusion, equality and participation throughout all areas of service delivery.

Administration & Compliance

Maintain accurate records, case notes and programme documentation.
Complete UBU reporting, logbooks and monitoring requirements within agreed timelines.
Prepare high-quality reports and programme evaluations.
Support grant applications and funding opportunities in consultation with the Service Manager.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding, GDPR, health and safety, and organisational policies.

Organisational Responsibilities

Work within the ethos, mission and values of Crosscare.
Support the implementation of Crosscare's strategic objectives.
Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions and mandatory training.
Participate in continuous professional development.
Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Line Manager.

Qualification Required & Experience Required

Third-level qualification in Youth Work (or a related discipline) and/ora minimum of three years' experience working with young people experiencing disadvantage or who are considered at risk.
Demonstrated experience delivering youth work programmes in community settings.
Proven experience working with young people from disadvantaged, diverse and multicultural communities.
Demonstrate, your experience and knowledge and practical application of Youth Work principles and informal education methodologies in Ireland.
Experience responding to Child Safeguarding and Child Protection concerns.

Skills & Knowledge

Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
Strong organisational, planning and time management abilities.
Excellent report writing and record-keeping skills.
Competent in Microsoft Office; experience using databases or case management systems is desirable.
Understanding of the UBU funding programme and associated reporting requirements
Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a multidisciplinary team.

Other Requirements

Applicants must have the legal right to work in Ireland and hold an appropriate visa or work permission, where applicable, that permits employment within the charitable sector.
Full clean driving license and access to own transport.
Must complete Children’s First Child Protection training before taken this role.
Must be availability to work a minimum of two evenings per weekand weekends.
Flexibility to participate in residential programmes, Erasmus trips and overnight activities.
