Healthcare Assistant

Location: Ealga Lodge Nursing Home, Main Street, Shinrone, Birr, Co. Offaly (R42 EA34)
Employment type: Full-time and part-time, Days or Nights
Reporting to: Nurse in Charge
Accountable to: Director of Nursing

About Ealga Lodge

Ealga Lodge Nursing Home is a 48-bed older person’s service in Shinrone, Co. Offaly, regulated by HIQA. We are committed to delivering the highest standard of person‑centred care, placing each resident at the heart of every decision.

The Role

As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA), you will promote a caring, safe, and dignified environment and support residents’ physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide person‑centred assistance with activities of daily living: personal care, hygiene, dressing, mobility, eating and drinking, and comfort.
Support residents to maintain independence, choice, privacy, and dignity at all times.
Observe, record, and report changes in residents’ condition; maintain accurate, timely care records.
Assist with nutritional support, hydration, and mealtime routines.
Engage residents in meaningful activities and companionship.
Follow care plans, infection prevention and control, and health and safety procedures.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and colleagues.
Work collaboratively with the nursing team to deliver safe, high‑quality care.

Requirements

QQI Level 5 (or equivalent) in Healthcare Support — major award or at least key care modules (preferred complete award).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliability, compassion, and a resident‑first mindset.
Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Desirable

1+ year’s experience as a HCA in a nursing home or similar care setting.
Up‑to‑date training (e.g., Patient Moving & Handling, Safeguarding, Infection Prevention & Control, CPR/First Aid).

Shifts and Roster

Day and Night shifts available; 8–12 hour patterns depending on roster needs.
Weekend and public holiday rotation as required.
