An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Leisure Centre Manager to lead the team at Energize Fitness & Leisure, located within The Galmont Hotel & Spa in the heart of Galway City.
Energize Fitness & Leisure offers an extensive 4,500 sq. ft. gym, an 18-metre swimming pool, fitness studios, sauna, jacuzzi and outdoor hot tub overlooking Lough Atalia, together with a varied programme of fitness classes and membership options.
We are looking for a passionate, energetic and commercially focused Leisure Centre Manager who will take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the club, lead and develop our leisure team, drive membership growth and ensure an exceptional experience for our members and hotel guests.
Key Responsibilities
As Leisure Centre Manager, you will:
- Lead, motivate and develop the Energize Fitness & Leisure team, creating a positive, professional and customer-focused environment.
- Oversee the smooth day-to-day operation of the gym, swimming pool, studios, changing facilities and associated leisure areas.
- Ensure the highest standards of health & safety, cleanliness, hygiene and operational compliance are maintained at all times.
- Manage team rosters, attendance, training, performance and development in line with hotel standards.
- Drive membership sales, renewals and retention, identifying opportunities to grow the leisure centre's membership base and revenue.
- Develop initiatives, promotions and events to increase member engagement and attract new members.
- Ensure members and hotel guests consistently receive a warm, professional and personalised service.
- Manage and continually develop the fitness class timetable in response to member demand and current fitness trends.
- Ensure all gym and leisure equipment is maintained to the highest standard, coordinating maintenance and repairs where required.
- Monitor departmental costs, payroll and other operational expenses while maintaining excellent service standards.
- Respond professionally and promptly to member feedback, queries and complaints.
- Work closely with the wider hotel management, Sales & Marketing, HR, Maintenance and other departments to maximise the success of Energize.
- Ensure all team members are appropriately trained and hold the necessary qualifications for their roles.
- Maintain all required records, checks and procedures relating to pool operations, health & safety and leisure centre compliance.
- Act as an ambassador for Energize Fitness & Leisure and The Galmont Hotel & Spa at all times.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous management or supervisory experience within a leisure centre, gym, health club, fitness facility or similar environment.
- A recognised fitness/leisure qualification.
- Strong knowledge of leisure centre operations, health & safety and pool operations.
- Excellent leadership and people-management skills.
- A strong commercial mindset with the ability to drive membership sales and retention.
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
- The ability to motivate, coach and develop a team.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to managing a busy leisure operation.
- Flexibility to work across a seven-day operation, including weekends and bank holidays as required.
- Pool/Lifeguard qualifications would be highly advantageous.
