Medical Secretary to Consultant Gastroenterologist

Location: Galway Clinic, Galway
Position: Full-Time (Part-Time Considered Initially)
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a growing private gastroenterology practice based at Galway Clinic. We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Medical Secretary to provide administrative support to a Consultant Gastroenterologist and help deliver an efficient, professional service to patients, GPs, and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities

Managing incoming referrals via Healthlink, email, and post
Processing and triaging referrals promptly
Scheduling outpatient appointments, endoscopy procedures, and follow-up visits
Liaising with patients, GPs, hospitals, and healthcare professionals
Preparing clinic lists and procedure lists
Typing and formatting clinic letters and medical correspondence
Managing patient records and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with GDPR
Handling telephone and email enquiries professionally
Coordinating investigations, results, and follow-up appointments
Managing private billing and invoicing (training can be provided if required)
Supporting the ongoing growth and development of a busy private practice

Essential Requirements

Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or Healthcare Administrator
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
Ability to prioritise workload and work independently
High level of professionalism and attention to detail
Excellent telephone manner and patient-facing skills

Desirable Requirements

Experience working in a private consultant practice
Familiarity with Healthlink referrals
Experience with medical billing and insurance claims
Knowledge of gastroenterology or endoscopy services
Audio typing experience

Able to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy
