Medical Secretary to Consultant Gastroenterologist
Location: Galway Clinic, Galway
Position: Full-Time (Part-Time Considered Initially)

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a growing private gastroenterology practice based at Galway Clinic. We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Medical Secretary to provide administrative support to a Consultant Gastroenterologist and help deliver an efficient, professional service to patients, GPs, and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing incoming referrals via Healthlink, email, and post
- Processing and triaging referrals promptly
- Scheduling outpatient appointments, endoscopy procedures, and follow-up visits
- Liaising with patients, GPs, hospitals, and healthcare professionals
- Preparing clinic lists and procedure lists
- Typing and formatting clinic letters and medical correspondence
- Managing patient records and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with GDPR
- Handling telephone and email enquiries professionally
- Coordinating investigations, results, and follow-up appointments
- Managing private billing and invoicing (training can be provided if required)
- Supporting the ongoing growth and development of a busy private practice
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or Healthcare Administrator
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to prioritise workload and work independently
- High level of professionalism and attention to detail
- Excellent telephone manner and patient-facing skills
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working in a private consultant practice
- Familiarity with Healthlink referrals
- Experience with medical billing and insurance claims
- Knowledge of gastroenterology or endoscopy services
- Audio typing experience
