Full job description

Head Chef

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen team in a warm and welcoming nursing home environment. This is a rewarding role for a chef who takes pride in preparing nutritious, high-quality meals that enhance the wellbeing and daily enjoyment of our residents.

You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the kitchen, ensuring meals are appetising, well-presented, and tailored to individual dietary and cultural needs.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver balanced, nutritious menus in line with residents’ needs and preferences
Cater for special dietary requirements, including allergies, modified textures, and medical diets
Lead, train, and motivate the kitchen team
Manage food ordering, stock control, and budget adherence
Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, health & safety, and environmental health standards
Ensure rosters are complete on a monthly basis
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen environment
Work closely with care staff and management to ensure resident satisfaction

About You

Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef, ideally in a care, healthcare, or similar setting
Level 5 Food Safety & Hygiene or above
Strong understanding of nutritional requirements for older adults
Excellent leadership and communication skills
Organised, reliable, and able to work calmly under pressure
A genuine passion for food and for making a positive difference to residents’ lives
