Mechanical, Automation & Maintenance Fitting (M.A.M.F) Apprenticeship

4-Year Programme | Togher, Cork City

About Malting Company of Ireland

With a heritage dating back to 1858, the Malting Company of Ireland (MCI) has been producing premium-quality malted grains for over 166 years. As a joint venture between Tirlán and Dairygold Co-Operative Society, we are proud to supply high-quality, whole-grain Irish malted barley to the brewing and distilling industries across Ireland and internationally.

The Opportunity

We are now offering apprenticeship opportunities to Leaving Certificate students and recent school leavers in Cork.

This 4-year apprenticeship programme combines hands-on industrial experience with academic training delivered through SOLAS/ETB. You will gain practical skills in a real working environment while earning as you learn, supported by experienced craft professionals throughout your training.

Key Responsibilities

As an apprentice, you will:

Assist senior maintenance fitter with daily tasks, equipment breakdowns, and planned maintenance across the plant
Work with a range of process equipment, including conveyors, elevators, pumps, fans, and packaging machinery
Operate in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment
Follow all health and safety procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Use tools and equipment such as drills, welding machines, hand tools, and other portable equipment
Support fault-finding and troubleshooting on material handling and utility systems, both independently and as part of a team
Liaise with production teams to support efficient job execution
Maintain accurate records using computerised maintenance systems (IGMS)

Requirements

Minimum age: 16 years
Education:
Leaving Certificate with a pass in Maths, or
Minimum Grade D in 5 subjects at Junior Certificate level
Strong interest in problem-solving and mechanical systems
Ability to work well as part of a team
Task-focused with good attention to detail
Flexible and adaptable approach to work
