The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the business while implementing and maintaining the systems that provide real-time visibility of project performance, profitability and cashflow.
A key part of the role will be leading the implementation and management of LiveCosts and SubcontractorOS, ensuring accurate project cost capture, weekly cost reporting and robust commercial controls across the business.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys improving systems, solving problems and helping management make better decisions through accurate financial and operational information.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management
- Manage all day-to-day accounting activities.
- Maintain sales and purchase ledgers.
- Process supplier invoices and payments.
- Manage customer invoicing and debt collection.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Manage payroll, PAYE, VAT and RCT compliance.
- Prepare monthly management accounts.
- Develop budgets and financial forecasts.
- Produce rolling cashflow forecasts.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- Maintain strong financial controls across the business.
Project Cost Control & Commercial Reporting
- Implement and maintain weekly project cost reporting.
- Track actual project costs against budgets.
- Monitor labour, plant, material and subcontractor expenditure.
- Produce weekly project performance reports.
- Identify cost overruns and commercial risks.
- Prepare monthly cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Monitor project profitability and cash generation.
- Ensure all project costs are accurately allocated and recorded.
- Develop reporting systems that provide real-time visibility of project performance.
- Support management with commercial decision-making and performance analysis.
LiveCosts & SubcontractorOS Management
The successful candidate will act as the internal owner of the company’s financial and commercial operating systems.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the implementation and ongoing management of LiveCosts across all projects.
- Lead the implementation and ongoing management of SubcontractorOS throughout the business.
- Ensure project teams capture information accurately and consistently.
- Maintain weekly project cost reporting and forecasting processes.
- Produce weekly commercial dashboards for management review.
- Monitor committed costs and forecast final project outcomes.
- Train and support operational staff in the effective use of LiveCosts and SubcontractorOS.
- Drive system adoption and compliance across all projects.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Continuously improve reporting, forecasting and management information.
Procurement & Operational Controls
- Implement and manage Goods Received Note (GRN) procedures.
- Ensure supplier invoices are reconciled against delivery records and purchase orders.
- Develop material tracking and accountability systems.
- Support purchasing controls and approval workflows.
- Improve visibility of plant, material and subcontractor costs.
- Assist in developing operational systems that reduce waste and improve accountability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
Key Deliverables
Within the first six months, the successful candidate will:
- Deliver accurate monthly management accounts.
- Implement weekly project cost reporting across all active projects.
- Successfully roll out and embed LiveCosts.
- Successfully roll out and embed SubcontractorOS.
- Establish a rolling 13-week cashflow forecast.
- Implement project profitability reporting.
- Introduce GRN and invoice reconciliation controls.
- Develop management dashboards covering key business KPIs.
- Improve visibility of project performance, profitability and cashflow.
Candidate RequirementsEssential
- Qualified or Part-Qualified ACA, ACCA, CPA or CIMA.
- Minimum 3 years’ accounting or management accounting experience.
- Strong financial reporting and analytical skills.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Experience with Sage, Xero or similar accounting software.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience within construction, civil engineering or contracting.
- Experience with project costing and job costing.
- Experience implementing business systems and software platforms.
- Knowledge of RCT and construction industry compliance.
- Experience producing management dashboards and KPI reporting.
