Job Summary

Carlow County Council invites applicatins from suitably qualified candidates for the permanent post of Architectural Technician Grade 1

The Architectural Technician (Grade1) is a key support position within the Council and is assigned to a service delivery area or to support a functional area as required and will work under the direction and management of the Senior Executive Engineer/Chief Technician or analogous grade or any other employee designated by the Director of Services/Senior Engineer as appropriate.

The role involves supporting managers and colleagues and working as part of a team in meeting work goals and objectives and delivering quality services to internal and external customers. The role requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services and its key stakeholders and relationships, local government structures and its democratic role and mandate, current local government issues, future trends and strategic direction of the sector. Successful applicants may be assigned to any service area/role within the Local Authority by the Chief Executive at any time. He/she will undertake detailed design and production information over a range of architectural projects, ensuring that design work is in accordance with best practice and current Building Regulations. 6.2

Responsibilities:
The requirements and duties of the post of Architectural Technician (Grade 1) may include the following:

Using CAD & BIM software to prepare planning, tender and construction drawings and/or models.
The preparation of presentation drawings in support of Part 8 Planning Submissions.
The preparation of tender documentation, including drawings & specifications.
Undertaking site inspections and taking records when attending site.
Managing contractors as required 6.2.6 Carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the line manager or his/her nominee from time to time.

The above specification is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post while in office.

It is desirable that each candidate shall:

Hold a N.C.E.A/H.E.T.A.C National Certificate Final Examination in Architectural Technology or equivalent qualification.
Hold a relevant qualification and or proven experience in the use of AutoCAD.
Have knowledge, understanding and ability to use software packages such as: Arcgis, Revit (an advantage but not essential), other BIM software, Map Info, graphics packages such as the Adobe Suite of software and Microsoft Office packages.
Have a thorough knowledge of the Building Regulations (TGDs) 1997-2021, the BC(A)R Regulations 2014 and the Health & Safety Regulations in relation to building design and construction.
Have experience in:

• Housing design and deliver and be familiar with social housing requirements.
• Fire safety certificate and disability access certificate applications.
• The delivery of projects within a tight deadline.
• Site inspection & reporting.

Be competent in the use of equipment to carry out tasks associated with technical duties.
Have ability to work in a team environment or work independently as required.

Driving Licence:
Holders of the post must hold a full unendorsed driving licence for class B vehicles and shall drive a motor car in the course of their duties and for this purpose, provide and maintain a car to the satisfaction of the local authority. If you are required to travel as part of your official duties, Carlow County Council as your employer must be indemnified on your insurance policy.
