Practice Administrator (Full-Time)

Killeshin Medical Centre, Portlaoise, Co. Laois

Job Type

Full-Time (40 hours a week), Lunch break 1 hour ( unpaid)

About the Role

Killeshin Medical Centre is seeking a friendly, organised, and professional Practice Administrator to join our new general practice team.

As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment while ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a busy environment, and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

Welcome patients in a warm, courteous, and professional manner.
Assist patients with check-in and general enquiries.
Ensure every patient has a positive experience from arrival to departure.

Appointments & Scheduling

Manage appointment bookings, cancellations, and rescheduling.
Maintain an efficient and accurate appointment diary.
Coordinate GP and nurse schedules where required.

Telephone & Communication

Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally.
Handle patient enquiries and relay messages accurately to clinical staff.
Provide clear information regarding appointments and practice services.

Administration

Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
Process referrals, correspondence, and other administrative documentation.
Carry out general office and reception duties.

Practice Operations

Process payments and assist with billing queries where applicable.
Keep the reception area clean, organized, and welcoming.
Monitor and replenish reception and office supplies.

Teamwork

Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative colleagues.
Support the efficient day-to-day operation of the practice.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience in a receptionist or administrative role.
Medical or GP practice experience is desirable but not essential.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Good computer and keyboard skills with the ability to learn practice management systems.
Professional, calm, and compassionate approach.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team while managing a busy reception desk.
Flexibility to provide occasional additional cover when required.
