Full job description

The Mercantile Group, one of Ireland’s leading hospitality companies, is looking for a Trainee Accountant to join our growing finance team.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the day-to-day financial operations of a dynamic, fast-paced group with a portfolio of iconic venues including Café en Seine, Whelan’s, The George, NoLIta, Opium and The Mercantile Hotel. Ideal for a graduate eager to pursue a professional accountancy qualification, this role offers strong mentorship, hands-on experience, and excellent development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
Support the year-end audit process, including audit file preparation and liaising with external auditors.
Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable transactions.
Assist with the reconciliation of bank accounts, cash, and credit card transactions.
Provide day-to-day support across core finance functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

What You Bring

A relevant Level 8 degree (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Business).
A genuine interest in pursuing a professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, or similar).
Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills.
Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and prioritise tasks.
A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
Previous relevant work or placement experience is an advantage but not essential.

Key Skills

Strong numerical and analytical abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
