After-School Area Manager – YMCA Dublin

Organisational Overview

YMCA Dublin is a community-based charity with a connected network of community hubs
across Dublin. For more than 175 years, we have worked alongside children, young people,
families and communities through childcare, youth work, family support and wider
community programmes. By bringing services and supports together in welcoming,
accessible local spaces, we respond to local needs and support participation, connection
and opportunity.

Job Summary

The After-School Area Manager will oversee the day-to-day organisation and operation of
YMCA Dublin’s after-school services across Parkside, De Verdon Place and Citywest. Based
at Parkside, the role will provide oversight and support across all three locations, lead the
after-school teams and help ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality services for
children and families.

Key Responsibilities

Management

Manage the after-school services across the three current locations and any future

locations, in line with organisational policies and procedures

Ensure each location delivers a quality curriculum linked to the National Quality

Guidelines for School-Age Childcare Services

Undertake service reviews and prepare reports for management and relevant funding

organisations

Ensure policies and procedures are up to date, implemented and communicated to

staff

Ensure services are prepared for inspection and that records relating to children

attending are maintained to a high standard

Oversee service administration and appropriate data-protection and privacy practices
Promote after-school services within the local communities

People Management and Team Leadership

Manage a team of up to 14 after-school workers
Coordinate staff recruitment, induction and appraisal processes
Ensure staff training is up to date, including child protection, first aid, fire safety and

manual handling

Supervise, train and support the after-school team in carrying out their

responsibilities

Work closely with the CE Supervisor to support Community Employment participants

and students completing placements as childcare assistants

Day-to-Day Duties

Oversee the delivery of after-school care across Parkside, De Verdon Place and

Citywest

Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children in an environment that supports their

personal development, educational experience and participation in recreational
activities

Lead the team in delivering engaging and interactive educational experiences and

curriculum

Support staff in the day-to-day care of children and ensure they understand their

responsibilities

Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and carers, acting as

a key point of contact for families

Maintain positive working relationships with team members and other stakeholders.
Liaise with the Family Support team and other internal and external services to

identify, support and signpost families where appropriate

Encourage family participation in relevant programmes, community initiatives and

events

Essential Requirements Third level (Level 7+) in Childcare, Education or equivalent

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
Strong team leadership and people management skills
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
Excellent programme management and communication skills
Strong organisational and administrative skills, with excellent report writing skills
Strong IT skills including Google Suite and an overview of CRM Systems
Proven ability to manage own time, set priorities, plan and organise work to meet

timelines

Be highly motivated and a self-starter

35 hours per week, exclusive of breaks, 11am - 6pm Monday to Friday

Based at Parkside, with responsibility for afterschool services across Parkside, De Verdon
Place and Citywest
