Commission, calibrate and keep Ireland's critical water and wastewater infrastructure running.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Instrument Technician to join our delivery team, based at our head office in Castleisland, Co. Kerry, with travel to project and operational sites across Kerry, & Munster primarily. This is a permanent role for the right candidate.

This is a hands-on, site-focused instrumentation role at the heart of how we commission and maintain water and wastewater treatment and pumping assets. You will install, configure, commission, calibrate and fault-find field instrumentation, analytical equipment and variable frequency drives (VFDs) across municipal and industrial schemes.

Direct, hands-on experience in the water and wastewater sector - municipal or industrial - is essential. We need someone who understands process instrumentation in a treatment environment and is confident taking ownership of instruments and drives from installation through to a fully proven, calibrated and documented system.

Key Responsibilities

Install, terminate, configure and commission field instrumentation - level, flow, pressure and temperature - and analytical equipment such as chlorine/residual, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, conductivity, suspended solids and ammonia analysers.
Set up, parameterise, commission and fault-find variable frequency drives (VFDs) for pumps, blowers, mixers and other process plant.
Carry out calibration of instruments and analysers to manufacturer and process requirements, producing and maintaining calibration certificates and records.
Perform loop checking, point-to-point testing and signal verification between field devices, control panels, PLC/SCADA and telemetry systems.
Diagnose and resolve instrumentation, control and drive faults on both live and new installations, minimising downtime to critical assets.
Support commissioning teams in setting plant to work, witnessing and proving control philosophies and cause-and-effect.
Liaise with process, electrical and automation colleagues, suppliers and client operations staff throughout installation and commissioning.
Complete accurate site records, test sheets, as-installed mark-ups and handover documentation.
Work to method statements and risk assessments (RAMS), permit-to-work systems and all relevant safety and quality procedures.

Key Requirements

Trade or engineering qualification in instrumentation, electrical or a related discipline.
A strong background in instrumentation is essential, particularly with analytical equipment used in process and treatment applications.
Direct, hands-on experience in the water and wastewater sector (municipal or industrial) is essential - candidates must have worked directly in that industry.
Demonstrable experience in setting up VFDs, commissioning, calibration and fault-finding.
Sound understanding of control and instrumentation principles - 4-20 mA loops, signal types, instrument ranging, and interfaces to PLC/SCADA and telemetry.
Ability to read and work from P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics and instrument schedules.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability with a methodical, safety-first approach.
Safe Pass and Manual Handling (willingness to obtain further certification such as confined space and working at height as required).
Full, clean driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites nationwide.
Strong team player with good communication skills and the ability to work independently on site.
5+ years' relevant experience.
