POST OF PERMANENT FULL-TIME SOCIAL WORK TEAM LEADER

NETWORK 6 GALWAY CITY EAST AND EAST GALWAY REGION

A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Permanent & Temporary Social Work Team Leader appointments may be made over the next 12 months.

The Role:

The Social Work Team Leader will be responsible for the delivery, development, coordination and quality assurance of social work services to children and young people with complex disabilities as a member of the Community Disability Network Team (CDNT) Galway City East and East Galway under Progressing Disability Services (PDS), where the Lead Agency is Corlann.

The Social Work Team Leader will provide professional leadership, supervision, support and direction to Social Work staff within the Childrens Disability Network Team while promoting excellence in family-centred, rights-based and evidence-informed social work practice.

Reporting/Responsible to:

Childrens Disability Network Manager (CDNM)

Professional accountability and support will be provided through the Head of Social Work and relevant governance structures as appropriate.

Purpose of the Post:

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality, evidence-based Social Work service, including assessment of family needs and the provision of a range of advisory, practical, therapeutic and emotional supports to children and young people with complex disabilities, from birth to 18 years, and their families accessing the Children's Disability Network Team.

The Social Work Team Leader will provide professional leadership to Social Work staff, contribute to service planning and development, ensure effective interdisciplinary working and support the implementation of family-centred practice across the service.

The post holder will promote the rights, welfare, participation and inclusion of children and young people with disabilities and their families, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with legislation, professional standards, national policy and best practice.

The service is provided within the Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People (PDS) framework, with interdisciplinary team working, family-centred practice, inclusion and partnership at its core.

Qualifications/Experience:

Candidates must hold an NQSW, CQSW or a Letter of Accreditation issued by the National Social Work Qualifications Board (NSWQB).

Candidates must be registered with CORU.

Candidates must have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience.

Demonstrated experience in supervision, leadership, mentoring or management of staff is desirable.

Experience working in services for children and young people with disabilities, intellectual disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder is desirable.

Experience working within multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams is desirable.

Experience in safeguarding, child protection, advocacy and family support services is desirable.

Experience of service development, quality improvement initiatives and change management is desirable.

Skills:

Candidates should demonstrate:

Strong leadership and people management skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.

Sound clinical judgement and decision-making abilities.

Knowledge of social work legislation, policies, procedures and professional standards.

Knowledge of disability services, safeguarding and child protection legislation.

Commitment to family-centred and rights-based practice.

Strong organisational, administrative and report-writing skills.

Ability to supervise, support and develop staff.

Ability to manage competing priorities and a complex caseload.

Experience of working collaboratively with families, communities and partner agencies.

Ability to lead change, innovation and service improvement initiatives.

High levels of professional accountability and integrity.

Flexibility and responsiveness to changing service needs.

A full clean driving licence and use of a car is an essential requirement of this post.

Working Hours:

70 hours per fortnight, based on a 5-day duty roster.

Hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. as future service needs require. Flexibility will be required in order to meet service needs.

Contracted hours of work are liable to change in line with the modernisation of health services as agreed at national level.

The health service is undergoing ongoing transformation and therefore it is critical that a flexible attitude to evolving environments, service models and work requirements is demonstrated by the successful candidate.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Social Worker, Team Leader salary scale (01/06/2026) - 72,407 x 6 increments 83,520 pro-rata per annum.

Annual Leave:

29 days pro rata per annum.

Tenure:

This post is permanent, full time and pensionable.

Base:

The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty.

The base for travel purposes is Woodlands Centre, Renmore, Galway.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. Employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer determine that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employers discretion.
