Job Title

Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) Barista Supervisor

Introduction

Down Syndrome Ireland is proud to introduce Equal Grounds, beginning with the launch of our first role based in Limerick. As part of this initiative, we will develop and deliver a bespoke Barista Academy, offering tailored vocational training to our members with Down syndrome in a supportive classroom environment.

The skills learned will be put into practice through our Equal Grounds Coffee Truck, which will travel to events and provide meaningful, inclusive employment opportunities for our members.

Our goal is to build confidence, independence, employability, and social inclusion for adults with Down syndrome-while serving great coffee and increasing visibility and awareness of our community

Scope of the role

The Barista Academy Supervisor will lead the planning, development and delivery of Down Syndrome Ireland's Barista Academy Programme in Limerick with the support of DSI National office. The primary objective of the role is to provide high-quality, person-centered vocational training that enables adults with Down syndrome to develop practical barista, hospitality and employability skills in an inclusive, supportive and empowering environment.

Working within a strengths-based framework, the Barista Academy Supervisor in collaboration with the National Employment Team, will design, deliver and evaluate a training programme that builds confidence, independence and workplace readiness while celebrating each learner's unique abilities and aspirations. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Barista Academy in Limerick, coordinate training schedules, liaise with suppliers and corporate partners, manage external coffee events and create meaningful opportunities.

The role requires an enthusiastic, organised and compassionate individual with excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills who is committed to promoting inclusion, lifelong learning and employment opportunities for adults with Down syndrome.

The individual will report directly to the Operations Manager, with a dotted line to the Head of Inclusive Employment.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications:

Essential

Qualification in Hospitality, Catering, or a related discipline.
Professional Barista qualification
Food Safety/HACCP certification

Desirable

Education and Training qualification and experience or Train the Trainer qualification and experience
Lamh Training

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have;

Experience working as a Barista within a commercial cafe environment.
Experience delivering Barista or Hospitality training.
Experience supervising or managing cafe operations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Strong organisational and scheduling abilities.
Experience liaising with suppliers and managing stock.
Experience coordinating corporate bookings and customer relationships.
Ability to design, develop and implement vocational training programmes.
Ability to break down practical skills into manageable learning steps suited to individual learning styles.
Compassion, kindness and patience.
High levels of energy, enthusiasm and motivation.
Knowledge and understanding of working with adults with Down syndrome is a distinct advantage.
Experience working within the disability, community or voluntary sector is desirable.

Essential Requirements for Employment

Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and lifelong learning.

Full clean driving license.
Access to own vehicle and ability and confidence to tow a single axle coffee trailer.
Flexibility to work across the week, including evenings and weekends, to facilitate learner training, corporate bookings, fundraising and community events.
Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and training.

Administrative and Organisational Responsibilities

Maintain accurate learner records and attendance.
Prepare weekly schedules and programme documentation.
Maintain stock records and ordering systems.
Assist with programme reporting and evaluation.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GDPR.
Support fundraising, promotional activities and organisational events.

Safeguarding and Compliance

Follow all DSI safeguarding procedures and organisational policies.
Adhere to Health and Safety requirements.
Promote the rights, dignity and wellbeing of all learners.
Complete all mandatory safeguarding and compliance training.
Report any concerns to the Operations Manager.

Additional Duties

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
Support DSI fundraising, promotional and community activities.
Contribute positively to achieving DSI's vision, mission and organisational values and work with professionalism at all times.

Hours 8 to 12 hours per week, flexibility required

Salary €17.00 per hour

Contract 12 month fixed term
