What is the opportunity?

This is an exciting opportunity to shape how APIs power critical banking services. As an API Technical Product Owner, you will treat APIs as products, defining their vision, roadmap and delivery.

You will translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable business insights, enabling informed decision-making across the organisation. Strong partner management will be critical, as you navigate diverse perspectives and build alignment across teams.

In this role, you will:

Define and communicate a clear API product vision and roadmap, aligned to business goals
Lead and prioritise the product backlog, ensuring work is clear, achievable and focused on value
Collaborate intimately with iterative development groups and collaborators to deliver secure, scalable API solutions
Support strong developer experience by ensuring APIs are well designed, documented and easy to use
Monitor delivery progress, risks and performance, and help teams stay on track through agile ceremonies

What will make you stand out?

Define API Vision

Partnering with leadership, business teams and fellow Product Owners, you will help shape the overall business vision and translate this into a clear, prioritised API roadmap, ensuring it is clearly communicated to agile teams.

Manage Backlog

Work closely with business partners to identify, gather, and refine requirements, translating them into a well-structured and prioritised product backlog. You will lead the creation of epics and user stories, ensuring they contain clear business value, detailed descriptions, well-defined acceptance criteria, and identified dependencies. You will be accountable for maintaining a transparent, realistic, and continuously groomed backlog that reflects business priorities and provides clear direction to agile delivery teams.

Working closely with engineering teams, you will balance customer needs, pivotal initiatives, technical enablers, defects, and technical debt to maximise value delivery. You will also act as a key quality gatekeeper, ensuring stories meet Definition of Ready and Definition of Done standards, formally accepting completed work, and holding teams accountable for delivering high-quality outcomes.

Champion Developer Experience

Partner closely with the agile squad - being visible and available to the squad to help balance and manage priorities, ensure priorities remain aligned with overall objectives/goals. Enable strong feedback between engineering and partners. Ensure features are detailed and shared throughout the company.

Track Metrics

You will, on periodic basis, be required to monitor and produce performance scorecards and other reports as required.

Execution & Lifecycle Management

Monitor progress, risks, and dependencies and communicate them to relevant partners and leadership, and lead agile ceremonies to support delivery and team momentum.

Experience with the following will help you stand out but is not required to apply for this role:

API specifications such as OpenAPI (OAS), Swagger or RAML
Tools such as Jira, Confluence, Postman or Insomnia
API management platforms such as Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong or AWS API Gateway
Background in software engineering, technical analysis or integration

Essential Qualifications

Proven experience of working as a Product owner within an Agile framework
Strong inter-personal and communication skills, with good experience in setting and managing partner expectations
Prior experience of working with APIs, familiarity with API specifications and standards, strong ability to read, interpret, and validate JSON and XML payloads and familiarity with modern API security frameworks

More about the team

You will join the Integration Centre of Excellence, a growing and collaborative team responsible for API and integration technology across key banking platforms and domains. The team works in an agile environment, using Scrum, DevOps and continuous delivery practices to deliver meaningful outcomes.

This is a hybrid role, based primarily in Dublin. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support collaboration and connection. Specific arrangements will be confirmed by your recruiter to ensure they meet the needs of the role and team.
