Job Description

Asset Management plays a crucial role at Dublin Airport, focusing on operating and maintaining the airport’s assets. The team is now recruiting a Utilities Engineering Technician to support technical asset management for the key water utilities across the airport campus.

The Airport Utilities Engineering Technician will play a critical role in managing and maintaining the airport’s water infrastructure, including a reservoir, distribution network, and associated assets. This role ensures operational continuity, compliance with regulatory standards, and supports sustainability objectives. A key responsibility is stakeholder engagement, particularly with Uisce Éireann, to align on water quality, supply resilience, and infrastructure upgrades.

The role reports to the Asset Management Utilities Technical Support Engineer with responsibility for providing planned and reactive maintenance for assigned engineering systems and equipment across the water utilities, ensuring key performance indicators are met.

Responsibilities

The Utilities Engineering Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimising water assets across Dublin Airport, which includes reservoirs, pumping stations, hydrants, and distribution networks.
This involves implementing both planned and reactive maintenance activities, utilising Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for scheduling and reporting.
The Technician must monitor Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to ensure accurate incident reporting and efficient system operation.
A key part of the role will be ensuring compliance with potable water standards and environmental regulations
The Technician support as required as the technical liaison with Uisce Éireann and other regulatory agencies, fostering collaborative relationships to support water quality, supply resilience, and infrastructure upgrades.
Additionally, the role involves close collaboration with internal teams, including operations, fire services, Health & Safety, energy team, environmental team and the wider asset management department to ensure integrated service delivery for the airport’s water utilities.
Assisting in the planning and delivery of infrastructure upgrades is essential, particularly focusing on ageing network renewal and resilience projects.
The Technician is expected to provide technical input for capital projects and support sustainability initiatives that enhance the airport’s water utilities.
Participation in incident management for water-related emergencies is required, with the objective of ensuring rapid resolution and minimising operational impact.
Working alongside the Utilities Technical Support Engineer, the Technician ensures optimal performance and 100% uptime of the airport’s water utility systems and equipment
Accurate reporting and incident documentation are maintained using all available systems, communicating any issues to relevant management.
The Technician collaborates with the planning team to maximise the use of CMMS for the scheduling, generation, and documentation of all planned, reactive, and corrective works. This includes recording timecards, managing escalations, and completing the necessary workflows, all aimed at analysing and enhancing system reliability and asset management processes.
Work alongside the energy team in the rollout of additional and replacement water meters across the site to help support water usage trending.
Serving as a point of contact and decision-maker for the handover and escalation of technical issues during shifts, the Technician oversees the onsite management of specialist support contractors. The role also involves identifying and pursuing technical continuous improvement initiatives, developing safety documentation such as P2W, RAMS, and emergency procedures when required.
Continuous professional development is encouraged to provide robust technical support to the wider team. The Technician actively promotes health and safety and safe working practices among both team members and contractors, ensuring a clean and healthy environment in all operational areas. This includes regular cleaning, waste removal, and monitoring of facilities.
Safe and competent operation of engineering equipment is essential, including scaffold builds, MEWP operation and checks, lifting equipment, forklifts, and more. The Technician develops and delivers technical toolbox talks to support effective service delivery across the team.
The Technician is responsible for utilising mobile technologies—such as phones, tablets, laptops, and PDAs—and ensuring system compliance within the team. Continued adherence to Dublin Airport Asset Management Standards, including ISO55001, ISO50001, ISO140001 and ISO45001, is maintained.
The Technician will be required to demonstrates flexibility regarding working hours, shift patterns, out-of-hours call-ins, remote technical support, and modern multi-skilling work practices, adapting to the dynamic needs of Dublin Airport’s water utilities operations.

Qualifications

At least 6 years’ overall experience in a technical role with demonstrable experience on specialist systems.
Relevant technical qualification (National Craft Certificate/Standards Based Apprenticeship) in plumbing
Previous experience working on a high pressure watermains network – including pipework and associated fittings – sluice valves, hydrants, air vents.
Previous experience working on various pipework materials such as cast iron, asbestos and polyethylene(fusion welded) pipework
Understanding of potable water treatment including chlorine & UV.
Experience in the setting up of DMAs and installation of water meters (including MAG and impeller types)
Strong health and safety focus, with chemical awareness
Proven ability to lead and communicate effectively in operational environments.
Strong operational awareness with the ability to analyse, evaluate, and prioritise situations.

Technical Competence

Strong understanding of water distribution systems, SCADA monitoring, and asset lifecycle management.
Practical, logical aptitude for electrical and mechanical systems maintenance.
Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting capability.
Experience with industrial automated control systems (PLCs, variable speed drives, SCADA, network comms, motor control).
Broad technical understanding of asset types at Dublin Airport.

Systems & Tools

Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
Ability to interpret operational data and apply analytical problem-solving.
