Full job description

We are currently recruiting for a Café Assistant on a Full Time contract in our Tram Cafe located in The Tram Cafe- Wolfe Tone Square, Jervis Street, Dublin 1.

The Café Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the café, delivering outstanding customer service, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a welcoming environment for our guests.

Customer Service:

Providing exceptional service by greeting customers with a friendly attitude.
Efficiently handling customer orders and complaints, ensuring they are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
Ensuring clear knowledge of all menu items, including allergens, pricing and promotions to assist with customers questions and queries.
Using upselling techniques to increase sales opportunities by recommending additional items.

POS System Operation:

Accurately handling cash and card transactions using the point of sale (POS) system.
Balancing the till at the end of each shift by counting the cash.

Food and Beverage Preparation:

Assisting in the preparation and presentation of food and beverages according to the café’s standards.
Ensuring proper food labelling and storage of food items.
Adhering strictly to Health & Safety procedures, including HACCP guidelines, to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with food safety regulations.
Responsible for ensuring that all temperature checks are completed as required each day.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Keeping inside and outside work surfaces, customer tables, seating areas, customer and staff toilets clean and organized throughout the day
Carrying out deep cleaning tasks for all café equipment and areas, including dishwashers, Merrychef, ice cream machine, bins, fridges, coffee machines, and bathrooms, ensuring all are kept maintained.
Reporting any faults or issues of equipment to supervisor/manager
Carrying out daily opening and closing shift responsibilities as per the scheduled roster.

Ordering & Stock Control:

Responsible for internal kitchen ordering.
Rotating and organising the stock on site.

Compliance:

Complying with all company procedures and policies as outlined in the company handbook.

Additional Responsibilities:

Any other tasks or duties reasonably requested by the Manager.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working in a cafe is an advantage.
Barista experience is required.
Can work full time and flexible (35-40 hours per week)

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work effectively in a team and handle a fast-paced environment.

· Attention to detail and willingness to learn new tasks.

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Ability to handle cash transactions and using a POS system.

· Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Hold a valid permit to work in Ireland.
