Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Position Summary:
The Clinical Audit Co-Ordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating and implementing National Critical Care Audit at Beaumont Hospital. The role of the Clinical Audit Coordinator in Critical Care, is to coordinate data capture relating to critical care to enable the hospital to clinically benchmark care standards and outcomes for critical care services nationally and internationally. The post has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating and managing activity and resources within the clinical area.
Responsibilities:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Delivery of the national ICU Audit which entails the collection and inputting of clinical data and generating clinical activity reports for Critical Care.

The successful candidate will be involved in disseminating information and be a catalyst for quality improvement initiatives.

Be responsible for co-ordinating and implementing a programme of clinical audit within
the Critical Care as agreed with the Medical Director of ICU and the ICU Clinical Nurse Managers -
Liaise with intensive care medical and nursing staff regarding the information collected
and identify any gaps in information to ensure data completeness. -
Assist in other specific audits related to the National ICU Audit Programme as directed
by the Medical Director of ICU, and in agreement with the ICU Clinical Nurse Managers. -
Ensure all audits are conducted to acceptable standards.

Follow policies and procedures in accordance with hospital guidelines, the National ICU
Audit Programme and the National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA). -
Assist with the development of other staff classified as users of the database to maintain
continuity and accuracy of data inputting. -
Maintain/Update ICU clinical skills. This should be agreed with the ICU Nurse Manager,
ICU Medical Director and the nurse assigned to the National ICU Audit Programme,
preferably using a personal development planning process, to agree required continuing
professional development (CPD). -
Keep up to date with developments in ICU audit by attending seminars, meetings,
training and other CPD opportunities as agreed with line manager using a personal
development plan. -
Build working relationships with external stakeholders; NOCA, ICNARC & DMF.

Develop implement and evaluate, with support from the National ICU Audit Coordinator,
a suitable process to ensure completeness and accuracy of collected data. -
Collect and collate data as per ICU audit dataset approved by National ICU Audit.
Sources include nursing and medical notes, input from CIS, input by medical and nursing
staff, links with other IT systems in hospital e.g. HIS, Microbiology, PACS, laboratory etc -
Ensure safe transfer of data to appropriate body (ICNARC, HIPE office in each hospital,
national/central ICU database, etc) in compliance with Data Protection requirements. -
Answer data validation queries from ICNARC in compliance with data protection
requirements. -
Receive data analysis reports from ICNARC and convey results back to the Unit staff.

Facilitate access to audit data for relevant hospital personnel.
Provide education to ICU nursing and medical staff regarding the Audit process and the
National ICU Audit. -
Adhere to statutory obligations under the Data Protection Act to include the safe storage
and safe transfer of data. Understand encryption of data. -
Produce, in collaboration with the medical, nursing and management staff an Annual
Report for the ICU incorporating audit data and other local data required by the ICU
Medical Director. -
Provide ICNARC data analysis reports to the ICU Medical Director , DMT and Clinical Nurse
Managers. -
Submit agreed reports to the National ICU Audit Coordinator.

- Demonstrates ability to organise care for caseload of patients in line with all members of the
services and other departments
EDUCATION:
- Completes required orientation as directed by the department
- To promote a learning environment and encourage professional development
- To follow current developments in nursing which will increase professional knowledge and skills
- The individual nurse is responsible for undertaking relevant continued professional development as in line with the NMBI ‘Competency Framework’, in order to develop their own professional practice.
- The applicant must commit to undertake specific courses to enhance their knowledge and skill set, including following the local education pathway as well as attending other relevant courses/study days.
- To be able to teach and act as a guide and link person (after appropriate training) to other nursing staff and students in the department

Mandatory:
- Be registered in the Relevant Division of the Register of Nurses kept by NMBI or be entitled to be so registered
- Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 3 must be in the speciality or related area with demonstrated appropriate clinical experience at this level.
- Have the clinical managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development at the appropriate level
- Ability to work both within a team and independently, planning own workload, setting and reaching goals and submissions.
