Solar PV Electrician / Safe Electric Qualified Certifier (QC)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Dublin-based with travel to projects throughout Ireland
Salary: €65,000–€85,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience
Benefits: Company van, fuel card, company phone, training, performance bonuses and career progression
IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING
This position requires an electrician who is already appropriately qualified to work and certify electrical installations in Ireland.
Applicants must hold recognised Irish electrical qualifications and be eligible to act as a Qualified Certifier (QC) under Safe Electric, or currently hold QC status.
Overseas electrical qualifications that have not already been formally recognised for the purposes of Safe Electric registration will not meet the requirements of this position.
Please do not apply unless you meet the above qualification requirements.
About VEEP Energy
VEEP Energy specialises in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Solar PV, battery storage and renewable energy systems throughout Ireland.
We deliver both commercial/industrial and residential Solar PV projects, including large rooftop systems, battery storage, SolarEdge, Huawei, Solis and other leading technologies.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and ambitious Qualified Electrician / Safe Electric Qualified Certifier to join our electrical and Solar PV team.
This is a long-term position with the opportunity to take a senior role within our electrical department as the company continues to expand.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for electrical installation, testing, commissioning and certification of Solar PV and associated electrical systems.
You will work alongside our electrical, roofing, engineering and project management teams and, depending on experience, may also supervise installation teams on commercial projects.
Previous Solar PV experience is strongly preferred, although we are also interested in experienced commercial or industrial electricians who meet the Safe Electric qualification requirements and are interested in specialising further in renewable energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical installation of commercial and residential Solar PV systems.
- Install and terminate Solar PV inverters, battery systems, isolators, distribution equipment and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Carry out AC and DC electrical works associated with Solar PV installations.
- Install new protective devices, main switches, distribution boards and related electrical equipment where required.
- Test, inspect and commission electrical installations.
- Complete electrical certification in accordance with Safe Electric requirements.
- Complete relevant SEAI and project documentation.
- Carry out fault finding, diagnostics and remedial electrical works.
- Commission Solar PV inverters and battery storage systems.
- Work with technologies including SolarEdge, Huawei, Solis and other leading manufacturers.
- Assist with commercial Solar PV commissioning and handover.
- Ensure all installations comply with current electrical regulations, manufacturer requirements and industry best practice.
- Identify electrical materials and components required for upcoming projects.
- Review electrical drawings, schematics and project documentation.
- Maintain accurate records, photographs, test results and commissioning documentation.
- Provide technical feedback to the office, design and project management teams.
- Supervise or lead installation teams where required.
- Maintain a professional standard of workmanship and customer service.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to VEEP Energy quality standards.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Recognised electrical qualification suitable for electrical work in Ireland.
- Current Safe Electric Qualified Certifier (QC) status OR confirmed eligibility to become a Safe Electric QC.
- Recognised Irish National Craft Certificate in Electrical or formally recognised equivalent qualification.
- Appropriate electrical testing, verification and certification competency.
- Strong understanding of Irish electrical regulations and installation standards.
- Safe Pass.
- Manual Handling certification.
- Full Category B driving licence.
- Ability to travel to projects throughout Ireland.
- Strong fault-finding and electrical testing skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional attitude when dealing with customers, consultants and other contractors.
Highly Desirable
The following would be a significant advantage:
- Existing Safe Electric QC number.
- Existing SEAI Solar PV Installer registration.
- Solar PV installation qualification.
- Microgeneration qualification.
- Previous Solar PV installation experience in Ireland.
- Commercial or industrial electrical experience.
- Experience with three-phase installations.
- Experience with SolarEdge systems.
- Experience with Huawei FusionSolar systems.
- Experience with Solis systems.
- Battery Energy Storage System experience.
- Experience with backup systems and automatic changeover equipment.
- Experience with CT metering and export limitation systems.
- Experience commissioning commercial Solar PV installations.
- Experience leading electrical or Solar PV installation teams.
- MEWP/IPAF certification.
Solar Experience
We are particularly interested in electricians with existing Solar PV experience.
However, Solar PV experience is not necessarily essential for an experienced Irish-qualified electrician who already meets our Safe Electric QC requirements.
VEEP Energy can provide manufacturer and system-specific training to the right candidate.
We would rather recruit a strong electrician with excellent electrical standards and provide specialist Solar PV training than compromise on electrical competency.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in high-quality electrical workmanship.
- Understands that electrical certification carries responsibility.
- Can manage their own workload and complete jobs properly.
- Has excellent attention to detail.
- Is comfortable troubleshooting technical problems.
- Can communicate professionally with customers and project teams.
- Is reliable and well organised.
- Can lead others when required.
- Wants to develop a long-term career within the renewable energy industry.
- Is interested in commercial Solar PV, battery storage and emerging energy technologies.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
- Company van.
- Fuel card.
- Company phone.
- Specialist Solar PV and battery training.
- Manufacturer training.
- Performance-related bonuses.
- Support from an experienced Solar PV installation and technical team.
- Exposure to residential, commercial and large-scale Solar PV projects.
- Opportunity to progress into a senior electrical, commissioning or supervisory position.
- Long-term career opportunities as VEEP Energy continues to expand.
