Full job description

IOM Ireland has been operating in Ireland since 2001, currently in following areas of migration management: Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration, Resettlement, Family Reunification, Counter-Trafficking, Protection, Integration Support to Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection, Integrated Immigration Governance and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

Context:

IOM provides mental health and psychosocial support to international protection seekers residing in the Citywest accommodation facility with the aim to improve their psychosocial well-being and to strengthen their overall resilience.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Ireland, the Head of the MHPSS Unit, the Counselling and Case Management Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Senior Case Management Associate, the incumbent will provide support in implementing project activities related to social work matters and services to international protection applicants hosted in transit accommodation centres in Ireland.

Perform such other duties, as may be assigned.

Qualifications: Education
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Social Work, with minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database .

Experience
Previous experience in social and protection activities in related areas of intervention is an advantage.
Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people, including people of culturally diverse backgrounds.
Previous experience in a similar role preferred.
Familiar with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees preferred.
Previous experience working with vulnerable migrants preferred.
Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment is an advantage.
Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, EU Agencies and/or Irish law enforcements or Government’s Departments would be an asset.
Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills.
Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc).
Valid driver’s license with at least five years’ driving experience is an advantage.

Ability to work with migrants and asylum seekers
Interpersonal skills (i.e. empathy and emotional resilience)
Intercultural competence and communication skills
Culture-specific knowledge
Capacity to prevent and mitigate conflicts and bridge gaps due to language misunderstandings in an objective and impartial manner between the beneficiaries and the authorities
Psychological understanding in interpersonal communication and sensitivity in addressing the asylum-seekers’ claims
Knowledge of the procedures related to the asylum application in Ireland
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and work with statistics
Good experience with Microsoft Office
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
Working knowledge of any UN languages an advantage
