For many veterinary surgeons, the appeal of mixed practice is simple: no two days are ever quite the same.
At Gorey Veterinary Hospital, we're looking for an experienced Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our growing and ambitious team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a clinician who enjoys maintaining a diverse skillset, thrives on variety, and values the opportunity to work across both companion animal and farm animal cases within a supportive and progressive environment.
Our practice is currently in an exciting period of growth and development, with recent investment in both our facilities and our people. As we continue to build for the future, we're looking for experienced clinicians who can confidently contribute from day one while helping us continue to deliver exceptional veterinary care to the communities we serve.
Whether you're seeking a full-time position, part-time opportunities or a more tailored working arrangement, we're happy to have an open discussion about what works best for you.
This is a true mixed practice role, offering the diversity that attracts so many vets to the profession in the first place.
With a caseload comprising approximately 70% small animal and 30% farm animal work, alongside a small amount of equine involvement, you'll enjoy a varied and engaging clinical workload. From consultations, surgery and medical investigations within the clinic, to farm visits, herd health work and TB testing in the field, you'll have the opportunity to utilise and develop a broad range of skills.
This role is ideally suited to a veterinarian who enjoys balancing different aspects of practice and values the challenge and reward that comes from working across multiple disciplines.
Gorey Veterinary Hospital continues to invest in its facilities, equipment and team as part of an exciting period of development.
Recent improvements have enhanced our clinical capabilities and strengthened our ability to provide excellent patient care across both companion animal and farm services. Alongside these investments, we're continuing to grow our team and create an environment where experienced clinicians can thrive, contribute ideas and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the practice.
You'll be joining a collaborative and approachable team that genuinely enjoys working together and takes pride in supporting one another.
We're seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon who is comfortable managing a varied caseload and making independent clinical decisions.
This position is not suitable for new graduates or clinicians who require ongoing mentorship and close supervision. Instead, we're looking for someone with proven experience in first-opinion practice who is confident handling routine consultations, surgery and farm work within a mixed setting.
While clinical confidence and independence are important, you'll always be part of a supportive team environment where collaboration, knowledge sharing and professional respect are central to our culture.
We recognise that every veterinarian's ideal working pattern looks different, and we're keen to build a role around the right person rather than asking candidates to fit into a rigid schedule.
As a guide, our full-time vets typically work an average of 40 hours per week across a combination of weekday shifts between 8:30am and 5:30pm or 10:30am and 7:30pm.
We are happy to discuss full-time, part-time and flexible working arrangements, and welcome conversations around alternative schedules that support both your professional ambitions and personal commitments.
To ensure a fair and sustainable rota for the entire team, participation in our 1 in 6 Saturday rota and 1 in 6 weekend on-call rota is a requirement of the role, including for those working part-time or flexible contracts. Saturday clinics run from 9:00am to 2:30pm, with a half day of TOIL provided, while a full day of TOIL follows an on-call weekend.
Importantly, the practice is not open to the public on Sundays or Bank Holidays, and our out-of-hours service is shared with a neighbouring veterinary practice, helping to distribute workload and support a healthy work-life balance for the team.
Located in the heart of Ireland's sunny south east, Gorey offers an exceptional quality of life alongside a welcoming and vibrant community.
With beautiful beaches, excellent local amenities, outstanding transport links and easy access to both Dublin and Wexford, it provides an ideal setting for veterinarians looking to combine career satisfaction with an enviable lifestyle.
We're seeking a VCI-registered Veterinary Surgeon with previous clinical experience in mixed practice.
The ideal candidate will enjoy the diversity of mixed work, be comfortable working across both companion animal and farm animal cases, and possess the confidence to manage routine first-opinion responsibilities with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills, sound clinical judgement and a collaborative approach are all essential.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is excited by growth, enjoys variety, and wants to be part of a practice with ambitious plans for the future.
You must be VCI registered and hold a clean, valid driving license to be eligible to apply.
