Pharmacy Technician – Job Description

Job Purpose:
To support the pharmacist in providing safe, efficient and patient-centred pharmacy services in our Walsh's Pharmacy, Oranmore store for full time role. The Pharmacy Technician works within their training and competence and follows pharmacy SOPs, relevant Irish legislation and professional guidance.

Key Responsibilities

Receive, process and prepare prescriptions accurately under the supervision of the pharmacist.
Select, assemble, label and prepare medicines for dispensing in accordance with pharmacy SOPs.
Assist with the preparation of monitored dosage systems and other pharmacy services where appropriately trained.
Identify prescription discrepancies or missing information and refer these to the pharmacist.
Manage dispensary stock, including ordering, receiving deliveries, stock rotation and checking expiry dates.
Ensure medicines are stored appropriately and assist with the management of recalled, expired or damaged stock.
Maintain accurate prescription records, computerised information and other pharmacy documentation.
Provide friendly, professional and confidential service to patients and customers.
Deal with routine enquiries within the limits of competence and refer clinical or medication-related queries to the pharmacist.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe dispensary and working environment.
Report dispensing errors, near misses and other safety concerns to the pharmacist and participate in quality and safety procedures.
Work effectively with pharmacists and other members of the pharmacy team.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements.
Complete relevant training and ensure all duties are carried out within personal competence and according to the pharmacy's SOPs.

Reporting to: Pharmacist / Pharmacist in Charge

Job Requirements

Relevant Pharmacy Technician qualification or recognised pharmacy/dispensing training.
Previous experience in a community or hospital pharmacy environment is desirable.
Good knowledge of medicines, dispensing procedures and pharmacy terminology.
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when handling prescriptions and medicines.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centred approach.
Ability to work effectively as part of a pharmacy team and under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
Basic computer skills and the ability to use pharmacy dispensing and stock-management systems.
Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality and data protection.
Ability to follow pharmacy SOPs, relevant Irish legislation and professional guidance.
Willingness to undertake ongoing training and maintain competence in the role.
Ability to recognise matters outside their scope of practice and refer them appropriately to the pharmacist.

Pay: €17.00-€18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
