Full job description

Fixed-Term Full-Time and Part-Time Positions
August 2026 – 21 May 2027

UCD Students' Union Commercial Services is recruiting enthusiastic and customer-focused Deli Assistants to join our team in our two busy convenience stores located on the UCD Belfield campus.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced food service environment and take pride in delivering excellent customer service. We offer predominantly Monday to Friday working, a supportive team environment, and opportunities for training and development.

Hours of Work

Part-Time Positions - 25 hours per week working 5 hours per day.

Full-Time Positions - 41.5 hours per week (inclusive of unpaid breaks)

Monday to Thursday: 8.5-hour shifts
Friday: 7.5-hour shift

Weekly rosters are issued one week in advance. Shifts are scheduled within the store opening hours.

Store Opening Hours

Monday to Friday: 7.00am – 6.00pm for 8 months of the year
Extended opening until 7.00pm during November, December, April and May

Our stores are closed most weekends. Staff may be required to work on an occasional weekend (maximum of five weekends in November/December and April/ May).

Key Responsibilities

Heat, serve and wrap pre-prepared food items, including sandwiches, rolls and wraps.
Ensure the deli counter is fully stocked, clean and attractively presented at all times.
Deliver excellent customer service by assisting customers with orders and offering product recommendations.
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in accordance with HACCP procedures.
Safely operate deli equipment, including ovens and other food preparation equipment.
Assist with the preparation and presentation of daily specials and promotional offers.
Process customer transactions accurately using the till.
Carry out opening and closing duties, including cleaning, replenishing stock and maintaining a safe working environment.

Essential Requirements

A minimum of one year's experience working in a busy deli, café or similar food service environment.
Excellent customer service skills with a friendly, positive and approachable manner.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks.
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices (HACCP certification is desirable).
Excellent communication skills with fluent spoken and written English.
Previous till operation and cash-handling experience.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Willingness to participate in training and ongoing personal development.
Self-motivated, energetic and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Pay: €14.15-€17.79 per hour
