We are seeking a Deputy Manager to support the Service Manager in the daily operation of our standalone school-age childcare service. This is a balanced leadership and hands-on role, combining direct work with children and staff with key operational and supervisory responsibilities. You will play an important part in maintaining high-quality care, supporting staff practice, ensuring compliance, and contributing to a positive and inclusive environment for children.

AfterSchool Together CLG is a dedicated childcare provider based in Newcastle, Galway. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for children to thrive in after school hours. We offer a range of activities designed to foster growth, creativity, and social skills. With a focus on child-led play, we strive to make every child’s time with us enriching and enjoyable. Our service operates within a school building and currently supports approximately 200 registered children. The children are grouped according by age and organised into nine groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Service Manager in the day-to-day running of the service
- Lead and support staff in delivering high-quality school-age childcare program
- Act as Person in Charge in the Manager’s absence
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to staff
- Support staff induction, training, and performance development
- Work directly with children as part of daily service delivery
- Promote positive behaviour management and inclusive practice
- Take responsibility for the implementation of the homework policy and procedures, and support staff in their consistent application across the service
- Act as a point of contact for parents and guardians
- Share responsibility for administration and service compliance
- Act as Deputy Designated Liaison Person (DDLP) and support safeguarding procedures
- Ensure compliance with Children First, Tusla requirements, and relevant childcare regulations
Requirements
- Minimum QQI Level 6 qualification in Early Childhood Care and Education, School Age Childcare, or related field
- Experience in a school-age childcare setting
- Previous supervisory or management-support experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and childcare regulations in Ireland
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
