We are seeking a Laboratory Analyst to join a small, established analytical laboratory.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a chemistry-related qualification and at least one year of practical laboratory experience who is looking to further develop their analytical and quality experience.
The successful candidate will be involved in the day-to-day testing and analysis of a variety of samples, working within an established ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System (QMS).
The role requires good attention to detail, strong organisational skills and an understanding of good laboratory practice. Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and laboratory quality requirements would be an advantage. The role also requires a candidate with a strong initiative and a drive to learn and develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out wet chemistry testing and analytical procedures on a range of samples in accordance with approved methods and SOPs.
- Operate and monitor laboratory equipment and instrumentation in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Ensure testing and analysis is completed accurately, safely and in accordance with quality requirements.
- Prepare, record and review analytical results and associated laboratory documentation.
- Assist with sample intake, logging, preparation and tracking.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Follow and contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with inventory management, including chemicals, standards and laboratory consumables.
- Identify and report errors, non-conformances or issues arising during testing.
- Support corrective actions and continuous improvement activities where required.
- Work within the laboratory's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Apply knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 principles and laboratory quality requirements in day-to-day activities.
- Assist with internal quality activities, documentation and audits where required.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure health and safety procedures are followed within the laboratory.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory colleagues and management to support effective day-to-day operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or another relevant chemistry-related discipline.
- Minimum one year of laboratory experience in an analytical, testing, QA or QC environment.
- Practical experience with wet chemistry techniques, particularly environmental.
- Experience using laboratory instrumentation or analytical equipment.
- Good understanding of laboratory quality systems and documentation.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 principles.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, reliable results.
- Excellent organisational and IT skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 or similar Quality Management System.
- Experience with Environmental Chemistry an advantage.
- Experience with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis/Spectrophotometry, FTIR or similar equipment.
- Experience with laboratory audits, non-conformances or corrective actions.
- Experience using LIMS, CRM or other laboratory information systems.
