Welder / Fabricator Role Overview
Tower Plant & Civil Engineering is seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator with a strong background in heavy plant and structural steel.
The successful candidate will carry out fabrication, welding, repair and reinforcement work across heavy plant, machinery and structural steel components. The role requires someone experienced in heavy-duty welding and fabrication who is confident assessing damaged or worn components and carrying out high-quality structural repairs.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out welding, fabrication, repair and reinforcement of heavy steel components.
- Complete structural repairs and rebuilding work on excavators, piling equipment, rock breakers and other heavy plant and machinery.
- Repair and reinforce components including booms, buckets, attachments, frames, brackets and other heavy-duty equipment.
- Fabricate and repair structural steelwork.
- Weld heavy steel sections including beams, plates, supports, brackets and base plates.
- Carry out welding repairs and modifications on heavy plant and structural components.
- Prepare materials through cutting, grinding, bevelling, fitting and alignment prior to welding.
- Carry out welding in a range of positions.
- Work with heavy-section, high-strength and abrasion-resistant steels where required.
- Apply appropriate welding techniques and heat control when working with thick or high-strength materials.
- Inspect completed work to ensure weld quality and structural integrity.
- Identify wear, cracking, defects and structural damage and determine appropriate repair methods.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings and specifications.
- Work alongside plant fitters and engineers when completing repairs and fabrication work.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Welder / Fabricator, ideally within heavy plant, structural steel, civil engineering, quarrying or a similar heavy industry.
- Experience carrying out structural welding and heavy-duty repairs.
- Experience repairing and rebuilding heavy plant or machinery components.
- Ability to weld confidently in a range of positions.
- Strong knowledge of material and joint preparation.
- Experience working with thick-section, high-strength and abrasion-resistant steels.
- Knowledge of appropriate heat control when welding heavy or high-strength steel.
- Ability to read and work from engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Ability to identify cracking, wear and structural damage and determine appropriate repair requirements.
- Strong understanding of welding quality and common weld defects.
- Ability to assess damaged components and determine an effective repair or fabrication approach.
Work: Monday-Friday
Hours: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Competitive pay based on experience.
