Discover Limerick DAC is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused Visitor Services Assistants to join our team at King John’s Castle.

Presently, we proudly champion Limerick through our initiatives at King John's Castle, Adare Visitor Centre, and Lough Gur.
The Role of Visitor Services Assistant, will be varied across different shift times, tasks and different colleagues. You will possess high energy, have a love of learning and be customer service obsessed. This is a varied, hands-on role that offers a unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant visitor attraction. The successful candidate will support multiple areas of the business including Retail, Admissions, Café, Guided Tours/Animation, Events & Programming, and Cleaning. - Interact with visitors in a pleasant friendly and helpful manner
- Demonstrate a helpful and informed knowledge of the tourism offer and visitor information for Limerick and the Discover Limerick sites.
Key Responsibilities
Café
We are looking for someone with strong café experience who is confident working in a busy customer-facing environment. Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold beverages and light meals.
- Delivering excellent customer service while maintaining speed and efficiency during busy periods.
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout the café, including tables, counters and kitchen equipment.
- Monitoring stock levels, replenishing supplies, carrying out stock-taking and completing end-of-day cash-up procedures.
Retail
- Assist customers in the gift shop by providing friendly and knowledgeable service.
- Operate the till and process cash and card payments accurately.
- Restock merchandise and maintain an attractive, clean and well-presented retail space.
Admissions
- Welcome visitors and provide a warm first impression.
- Process ticket sales and issue admission passes.
- Promote and upsell site experiences, events and services.
- Respond to visitor enquiries and reservations by phone and email.
- Handle cash and card payments and complete daily cash-up procedures.
Tour Guiding / Animation
- Deliver engaging and informative guided tours.
- Bring the history of the site to life through interactive storytelling and roleplay.
- Engage visitors of all ages with enthusiasm, professionalism and excellent customer service.
Events & Visitor Programming
- Support the General Manager in delivering seasonal events, educational programmes and group visits.
- Assist with the set-up, operation and dismantling of events and activity spaces.
- Help ensure visitors enjoy a high-quality experience during all events.
Cleaning & Site Presentation
- Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness across all public and staff areas.
- Clean the café, retail space, exhibition areas, visitor and staff toilets, and staff canteen.
- Hoover, mop, dust and empty bins, ensuring the site is clean, safe and welcoming at all times.
Shift Patterns & Working Hours:
This is a flexible role requiring availability for morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. The business operates seven days a week, and shifts will be scheduled based on visitor demand, the tourism season, and special events. Your shifts will always be a minimum of 5 hours in length, averaging 6 hours per day. Occasional travel between sites may be required.
Shift Types:
Morning Shift: Starting at 8am or 9am with your team, your role will be to get our site ready for the day where that is helping in the café, Assisting with site setup, admissions areas, retail, site hygiene and general preparation for the day.
Middle shift: Starting mid-morning or early afternoon, your role will be to ensure our sites are spotlessly clean, well presented, helping customers with queries/information/bookings on the shop floor and working on tills or in the café to give a welcoming experience to our visitors
Late shift: From your start time in the afternoon, your role will be to ensure our visitors experience is top class by serving them with a smile while on the tills, in the café, restocking missing items and getting the shop and café ready for the next day by cleaning and following merchandising principles before closing time.
