We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lathe Operator / Fabricator join our production team in the lighting industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the set up and running the machines that cut, shape, and drill materials like metal components used in the fabrication of lighting fixtures, poles, brackets, and related structures. Precision, quality, and safety are essential in producing aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound lighting products.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lathe Operator / Machinist with fabrication experience to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating conventional and/or CNC lathes, machining components to specification, and performing a variety of fabrication tasks including cutting, welding, assembly, and finishing of metal products. The role requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, maintain quality standards, and work safely in a workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC lathes to manufacture precision components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure equipment is kept in good working order.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to achieve required tolerances.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
Fabrication Duties:
- Cut, shape, drill, and prepare metal materials for fabrication projects.
- Perform welding, grinding, fitting, and assembly of fabricated components.
- Operate fabrication equipment including bandsaws, drills, presses, grinders, and other workshop machinery.
- Assist in the manufacture and repair of custom metal products, structures, and equipment.
- Carry out finishing operations such as deburring, polishing, and surface preparation.
- Work from fabrication drawings and job specifications to meet customer requirements.
General Duties:
- Follow company quality standards and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other production personnel.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
- Support other workshop activities as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a lathe operator, machinist, or toolmaker.
- Experience in metal fabrication and workshop practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Competence in using precision measuring equipment.
- Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, materials, and tolerances.
- Welding experience (MIG, TIG, or Arc welding) is desirable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
