The Protection Maintenance team in Transmission & Distribution Engineering provides a highly technical protection service. This involves development and implementation of maintenance policies/standards, monitoring the network and identification/specification of maintenance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Working on a national basis, at times largely dictated by operational constraints, key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Assessment of site safety prior to engaging in commissioning or maintenance activities and to coordinate the work schedule with site staff as appropriate.
Commissioning primary, secondary and associated equipment forming part of Transmission/Distribution Networks and ESB Power Stations.
Maintenance testing of protection relays and associated circuits.
Functional verification of protection scheme designs and checking compliance to approved design standards.
Coordinate, plan, and deliver maintenance/commissioning works.
Respond and mobilise at short notice to critical system faults.
Carry out detailed fault investigations and provide specialist protection support to network & power station operators.
Mentor and train junior staff in the protection maintenance teams.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
In depth knowledge and experience of operational procedures and the operation of substations and/or power stations.
Strong understanding of typical protection philosophies as applied to Power stations and Transmission Networks.
Thorough knowledge of schematics, cubicle wiring and functional testing techniques.
Proven track record of delivering commissioning/maintenance activities in live operational HV substations and/or power stations.
Adept in the use of omicron test equipment, particularly in the area of test plan development for protection relay testing.
Comfortable with software applications required for communicating with various types of protection relays.
Self-motivated and be capable of working on their own initiative without direct supervision.
Show a high level of commitment and flexibility.
As travelling to sites is feature of this role, it is essential to have appropriate Drivers License.

Qualifications
Essential
A minimum of 6 years relevant experience in the electricity generation and/or HV transmission sectors
Desirable
Either a 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
Location
Site work throughout Ireland will be a feature in this role. Driver’s license is a must to apply for this role.
General
It is not anticipated that a staff member still on probation (either new entrant probation or a probation from a previous promotion) will be eligible to apply for a promotional vacancy.
Typically, an individual must have completed their probation and should have at least two years’ experience in their current role before being eligible to apply for a promotion.
An application from a staff member who does not meet the above criteria must have the approval of both the senior line manager and the HRM within the BU before progressing to application.
Note: For staff currently on non-monthly pay frequency, any promotion to Bands 5 and above will result in a change in pay frequency to monthly.
Reporting to
The successful candidate will report to the Protection Maintenance Team Leader within Network System Services, Transmission & Distribution Engineering.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum
