Cheeverstown is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and motivated Recreational Co-Ordinator to join our team. This exciting role will support adults with intellectual disabilities to access meaningful opportunities, build relationships, participate in their communities, and enjoy fulfilling social, recreational and leisure experiences.

Working across Respite and New Directions Services, you will play a key role in developing person-centred programmes that promote inclusion, independence, active citizenship, human rights, and community participation.

About the Role

As Recreational Co-Ordinator you will coordinate volunteer and TY student placement programmes across the Organisation. You will lead and coordinate engaging activities and opportunities that reflect the interests, goals and aspirations of the people we support. You will work closely with individuals, families, multidisciplinary teams and community organisations to ensure meaningful participation and positive outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about social inclusion, advocacy, community development, sport, recreation and person-centred practice.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer and TY Student Coordinator

Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding and placement of volunteers and students across the Organisation.
Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, students, educational institutions and managers in relation to placement arrangements.
Ensure all required pre-placement documentation, compliance checks, inductions and mandatory training are completed prior to commencement.
Maintain accurate records of volunteer and student placements, monitor placement activities and be the point of contact for all participants

Person-Centred Support

Develop and coordinate meaningful recreational, social and community-based activities.
Promote choice, independence and active participation.
Support individuals to achieve personal goals and develop new skills.
Actively advocate for the rights and inclusion of people supported by Cheeverstown.
Build strong relationships with families, community groups and local organisations.

Community Engagement

Facilitate access to local community activities and events.
Coordinate social groups, friendship networks and community-based opportunities.
Support participation in Special Olympics training and competitions.
Develop partnerships within local communities through networking and collaboration.
Identify opportunities to enhance social inclusion and community participation.

Programme Development

Assist with planning and developing innovative recreational programmes.
Complete assessments and gather information to ensure supports are tailored to individual needs.
Work collaboratively with Respite and New Directions teams.
Support service development initiatives and partnership opportunities.

Essential Requirements

Full clean driving licence and use of own car.
Relevant min Level 6 qualification in Social Care, Health Care, Community Development, Recreation, Disability Studies or a related discipline or Professional Registration with CORU or Minimum 2 years' Key-Worker experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
Team Lead/Management Experience
Experience working collaboratively with individuals, families and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong organisational, planning and coordination skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Commitment to person-centred practice, human rights and community inclusion.

Desirable

Experience coordinating community programmes, sports, social activities or events.
Knowledge of New Directions and person-centred planning.
Experience supporting Special Olympics or similar recreational initiatives.
Experience in advocacy and community networking.

Salary is in line with the HSE Grade V pay scale depending on experience and incremental placement.
