Due to continued expansion, we are seeking an experienced Landscaping Operative who would like to progress towards becoming a qualified arborist/tree surgeon.
This position is ideal for someone with landscaping, grounds-maintenance, horticultural or similar outdoor experience who is ready to develop specialist tree-care skills.
The successful candidate will work alongside qualified tree surgeons and receive practical experience across tree pruning, removals, site clearance and general arboricultural operations. Training and support towards relevant qualifications will be provided.
The level of responsibility and rate of pay will reflect the successful candidate’s existing experience, qualifications and ability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support qualified arborists during tree-pruning and removal operations
- Carry out groundwork, site preparation and site clearance
- Operate woodchippers and other machinery where trained and authorised
- Manage branches, timber, ropes and equipment on the ground
- Assist with planting, hedge cutting and general landscaping work
- Identify hazards and maintain safe working areas
- Inspect and maintain tools and equipment
- Develop skills in chainsaw operation, tree identification, pruning and arboricultural techniques
- Undertake relevant training and qualifications
- Progressively accept greater responsibility as competence develops
- Communicate professionally with clients and the public
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in landscaping, horticulture, grounds maintenance, forestry, farming or a similar practical role
- Strong interest in developing a professional career in arboriculture
- Good physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors
- Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work effectively within a team
- Comfortable working with tools and machinery
- Willingness to complete formal training and assessments
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Full clean driving licence
- Trailer licence or experience towing trailers
- Existing chainsaw, woodchipper, manual-handling or first-aid training
- Experience operating landscaping or grounds-maintenance machinery
- Relevant horticultural, forestry or landscaping qualification
- Some experience of climbing or working at height
