Job Summary
Cooney Furlong Grain Co. is looking for someone to join their Wexford branch to supervise daily retail operations in the agriculture sector, ensuring efficient store performance, effective management of agricultural product inventory, and high standards of customer service. The role involves overseeing staff, supporting sales targets, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and coordinating with suppliers to maintain smooth and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers in a professional, friendly, and knowledgeable manner, always delivering excellent customer service.
- Provide advice across all product ranges, including animal feed, fertilisers, chemicals, seeds, animal health products, dairy hygiene, hardware, and other farm supplies.
- Process sales transactions accurately through the POS system.
- Create and process purchase orders, receive deliveries, reconcile orders against delivery dockets, and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
- Monitor, maintain, and replenish stock levels, including shelf restocking, stock rotation, and ongoing stock control.
- Carry out and assist with regular stock takes, investigating and resolving discrepancies where required.
- Act as the point of contact for the yard, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and efficient workflow.
- Ensure the yard and store are kept clean, tidy, organised, and compliant with all health & safety requirements.
- Oversee yard operations and ensure all staff are carrying out their duties effectively; communicate any issues promptly and resolve where possible, escalating to the Branch Manager when necessary.
- Ensure all safety, compliance, and regulatory procedures are followed, particularly regarding the handling and storage of chemicals and animal health products.
- Assist with merchandising, pricing, promotional displays, and maintaining a professional retail presentation.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal staff regarding special orders, stock requirements, and delivery schedules.
- Organise and coordinate branch deliveries for all branches Enniscorthy, New Ross & Wexford, ensuring delivery scheduling is time-efficient and stock levels are maintained across all locations.
- Keep up to date with product knowledge, industry developments, and company procedures.
- Handle customer queries and complaints efficiently, professionally, and in line with company standards.
- Manage allocated customer accounts, including driving sales, maintaining accurate account records, managing rebates, and supporting debt collection activities. Identify customers experiencing payment difficulties and escalate promptly to the Branch Manager and Credit Controller where required.
- Step in to oversee branch operations and support staff management in the absence of the Branch Manager, ensuring continuity of service, operational efficiency, and adherence to company procedures.
- Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Requirements:
- Experience in retail, Agri-retail, warehouse, or yard operations
- Supervisory or team leadership experience
- Basic knowledge of agricultural products (or willingness to learn)
- Experience in stock control, ordering, and inventory management
- Customer service experience in a busy, face-to-face environment
- Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer use
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage workload with good attention to detail
- Awareness of health & safety standards (or willingness to learn)
- Reliable, organised, and able to work independently and as part of a team
