Full job description

Afterschool Assistant (Part-Time)

Hours: 2:00pm – 6:00pm, Monday to Friday (during school term)
Location: Killala
Reports to: Afterschool Programme Manager

Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable, caring, and enthusiastic Afterschool Assistant to support the daily operation of our afterschool programme. The role involves supervising children, assisting with activities and homework, and helping create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for students after the school day ends.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and support children attending the afterschool programme.
Assist with homework support and quiet study time.
Plan and facilitate recreational, creative, and educational activities.
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children in your care.
Prepare and supervise snack time in line with health and safety guidelines.
Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming environment.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and programme coordinators.
Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection policies.

Requirements

Experience working with children in a childcare, school, or recreational setting preferred.
Friendly, patient, and responsible with a positive attitude.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage groups of children and encourage positive behaviour.
Garda Vetting (or willingness to undergo vetting).
Relevant childcare qualification is an advantage but not essential.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
During school term only
