BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Irish Red Cross Society (IRC) is part of the world’s largest independent humanitarian network, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Migration is a priority focus for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement internationally as well as for the IRC in Ireland. Building on successful programming in integration, housing and resettlement, IRC is growing its service offerings to support employability and labour market insertion of refugees, asylum-seekers and other migrants.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

This role will be responsible for delivering employability skills training, facilitating peer supports and coaching and creating job placements for refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants within IRC’s employment services programme. Reporting to the Project Co-ordinator – Employment, the Employment Training and Placements Officer will support delivery of employment services under IRC’s Ukraine Accommodation Programme funded by the Irish Government, the “EMERge” Programme, funded under the EU’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and under other funding as may arise.

This role will be based at IRC Head Office in Dublin and will require frequent travel to project locations in Dublin and nationwide. The role provides an opportunity to support and positively impact the integration journeys of vulnerable and marginalised migrants in Ireland.

ROLE RESPONSIBLILTIES

Manage a case load of jobseekers from a refugee or vulnerable migrant background towards employment and related outcomes
Work in collaboration with each participant to identify their needs, skills, experiences and work aspirations and develop an individual action plan
Develop and deliver group employability training as required
Support and engage a pool of Volunteer Mentors and facilitate individual and group volunteer support for programme participants
Organise employer networking and job connections events, and peer support groups
In collaboration with the Employment Partnerships Officer, support the development of relationships with businesses to source opportunities for employment
Support both company and employee during the matching process and in the early stages of employment
Provide on-the job support and follow-up to ensure successful job placements
Build relationships with training/ education providers in the local area, Intreo centres, Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) and other organisations to enable appropriate referrals
Deliver information webinars and on-site training and advice sessions on employment for residents of state accommodation centres such as UCTATs and IPAS centres
Contribute to project planning and reviews
Maintain detailed records and provide regular reports against targets for funders
Undertake training, research and consultation with stakeholders to develop best practice
Other tasks as required

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Criteria

2+ Years’ Experience working in the Migrant Integration, Employment sector or similar with experience supporting people into employment through mentoring and coaching

Understanding of the issues facing people from a refugee or migrant background in finding and maintaining employment
Thorough understanding of how to succeed in job seeking, including skills identification, personal development plans, CV preparation, interviews and networking
Excellent training and facilitation skills
Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
Strong empathy and relationship management
Excellent team working combined with the ability to work on your own initiative
Ability to maintain strict compliance protecting confidential, sensitive information and materials
Competent user of MS Excel, Teams, Sharepoint and CRM systems
Fluent English, written (to reporting writing standard) and conversational
Willingness to travel within Ireland

Desirable Criteria

A third-level qualification in Coaching, Adult Guidance, Migrant Integration, Youth Work, Project Management or similar
Knowledge of the work of the Irish Red Cross
Experience of working with volunteers and businesses/employers
Ability to speak additional languages e.g. Arabic, Ukrainian, French, Dari or Pashto, would be an advantage
Full clean driving licence and access to vehicle an advantage

The Irish Red Cross offers the following benefits in addition to salary:

20 days Annual Leave plus closure of the office on Good Friday, plus two additional ‘privilege days’ to be used at Easter and Christmas respectively.
