Laser Profiling and Press Brake Operator (incl. 5-Axis)
Role Overview Operates CNC laser profiling machines and press brake equipment to cut, form, and bend metal components to engineering drawings and customer specifications, including programming and operation of 5-axis laser cutting systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, programme, and operate CNC laser profiling machines (2D and 5-axis) and CNC press brake equipment
- Interpret engineering drawings, part programmes, and work instructions to produce components to dimensional tolerance
- Select and change tooling, nozzles, lenses, and press brake tooling as required
- Input and edit CNC programmes using machine controls or offline software (e.g. Trumpf TruTops, Bysoft, Radan, or similar)
- Perform first-off and in-process inspection using appropriate measuring equipment (vernier, tape, protractor, profile gauges)
- Monitor cut quality, adjust laser parameters (power, speed, assist gas, focus) and press brake back-gauges to maintain output quality
- Carry out routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and basic fault diagnosis
- Complete production documentation, job cards, and non-conformance reports accurately
- Maintain a safe and tidy work area in compliance with health and safety requirements
- Work to production schedules and report output, downtime, and scrap to the team leader
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience operating 5-axis CNC laser cutting machines and/or CNC press brakes in a sheet metal or fabrication environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience with 5-axis laser systems desirable (e.g. Trumpf TruLaser Cell, BLM, Mazak Variaxis)
- Basic CNC programming and editing capability
- Good understanding of material properties — mild steel, stainless, aluminium
- Quality-conscious with attention to detail
- Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship an advantage
