Job Description

The role of Laboratory Technician is to prepare and analyse customer samples keeping in mind efficiency, quality and accuracy standards as required by the company. Upon commencement of employment a training plan will be initiated for the Technician. This will include all basic testing techniques appropriate for the work area

Laboratory Technicians will:

Become competent in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Become competent in the laboratory work practices and requirements that facilitate analysis.
Become familiar with all relevant laboratory test methods and procedures i.e. SOP’s.
Ensure Compliance to the 17025 standard at all times by adhering to the in house quality procedures provided.
Complete all documentation on time, accurately and legibly.
Check weights and temperatures in line with company procedures.
Keep their training sheets up to date and initiate training where possible when able to do so.
Adhere to all company standards in the area of safety, housekeeping and quality, notifying a Senior Technician or Team Leader of any discrepancies.
Keep the laboratory area clean and tidy.
Ensure that the laboratory is stocked with necessary consumables and reagents etc.
Clean laboratory equipment as required, including fridges, incubators water baths etc.
Ensure that all reagent bottles and beakers are filled and changed regularly and the correct control labels are attached to them.
Ensure that there are no reagents in the laboratory that have past their expiry date.
Ensure that all documentation relating to customer samples / results is filed.
Provide cover for other members of staff as required and participating in the Weekend Rota.
Be flexible to work in any area of the business as is required.

Qualifications

Degree level qualification in Environmental Chemistry, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry or other relevant subject
Record of ongoing professional development
Previous experience working within an accredited contract testing laboratory or related industry laboratory environment are preferred but full training will be provided
Thorough understanding of relevant quality system and accreditation requirements
Good keyboards skills and experience of LIMS Systems, MS Office packages in particular Excel.
Good standard of written and spoken English and numeracy skills.
