We are seeking a reliable and hardworking individual to assist with the day-to-day running of our herb & tree nursery and surrounding woodland. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role requiring a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Work varies daily depending on the season and includes both nursery production and general grounds management.
Key Responsibilities
- Propagation (seed sowing, cuttings, division)
- Potting on, transplanting and plant care
- Watering and monitoring plant health
- Herb bed maintenance (weeding, mulching, feeding)
- Grounds maintenance (strimming, walkway maintenance, general upkeep)
- Pruning of young trees
- Preparing plants for sale (cleaning, grading, packing)
- Assisting with nursery organisation and cleanliness
Requirements
- Previous experience in horticulture or landscaping essential
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (Wet, cold, muddy)
- Good level of physical fitness (lifting, bending, repetitive tasks)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Reliable, punctual and consistent
- You must provide your own boots and suitable rain gear
- Interest in horticulture or herb farming preferred
- Own transport required as we are in a rural location
Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
- Experience with plant propagation
- Experience using strimmers, hedge cutters or chainsaws
- Basic machinery or tool maintenance
- Chainsaw certification (QQI or equivalent)
Training Provided
Full training will be provided in all aspects of nursery work, including:
- Plant identification
- Propagation techniques
- Nursery systems and workflows
- Grounds maintenance practices
Working Conditions
- Primarily outdoor work and in polytunnel
- Physically demanding days at peak season
- Winter months with woodland maintenance tasks
Hours & Pay
- Hours: Starting out with 16 hours a week, possible increase during summer
- Pay: €14.50 per hour (pay is subject to increase after a 2 month probation period)
- Employment is subject to review after a 2 month probation period
- Location: Affick, Tulla, Co. Clare
