About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and customer-focused Shop / Deli Assistant to join our dynamic retail team. In this dual role, you will be the face of our store—delivering exceptional service at the deli counter and ensuring our shop floor is always welcoming, well-stocked, and ticking along perfectly.
Whether you are crafting the perfect breakfast roll, managing stock, or greeting regular customers at the checkout, your energy and attention to detail will help us maintain the high standards our local community expects.
Key ResponsibilitiesDeli & Food Service Operations
- Food Preparation: Prepare, cook, and display a high-quality range of hot and cold food offerings (including breakfast, lunch, and fresh deli options) in line with Daybreak recipes and standards.
- HACCP & Food Safety: Maintain strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and traceability regulations. Ensure daily HACCP records, temperature checks, and cleaning schedules are completed accurately.
- Waste Management: Monitor stock rotation (FIFO) at the deli counter to maximize freshness and minimize food waste.
- Presentation: Ensure the deli counter, prep areas, and utensils are kept meticulously clean, sanitized, and visually appealing throughout the day.
Shop Floor & Customer Service
- Customer Excellence: Provide a warm, friendly, and efficient service to every customer, efficiently handling queries and building local rapport.
- Checkout Operations: Operate the EPOS/till system accurately, processing cash, card, and digital transactions while strictly adhering to age-restricted sales policies (e.g., alcohol, tobacco).
- Merchandising & Stock Control: Restock shelves, chillers, and ambient displays regularly. Ensure all items are correctly priced, faced forward, and well-presented.
- Store Maintenance: Assist in maintaining overall store cleanliness, ensuring aisles are clear, spills are managed immediately, and waste is disposed of correctly.
Requirements & Skills
- Experience: Previous experience in a retail deli, commercial kitchen, or fast-paced catering environment is highly desirable.
- Food Safety Knowledge: Valid HACCP / Food Safety Level 1 or 2 certification is a distinct advantage (training can be provided to the right candidate).
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong command of English.
- Pace & Stamina: Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak breakfast and lunch rushes, multitasking comfortably between the deli and the shop floor.
- Flexibility: Availability to work a flexible roster, which may include early mornings (deli prep), evenings, and weekend shifts.
- Team Player: A positive, reliable attitude with the ability to work well both independently and as part of a busy team.
