Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, located in the heart of Rooskey, Co Roscommon, is inviting applications for the role of chef/cook.
Set in a welcoming village on the banks of the River Shannon, Shannon Lodge Nursing Home is a place where residents are supported to enjoy comfort, dignity, community and quality of life. We are looking for a chef/cook who shares those values and who understands the important role good food plays in daily life, wellbeing and care.

The successful candidate will prepare fresh, nutritious and appetising meals for residents, while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
The role
The chef/cook will be responsible for the day-to-day preparation and cooking of meals for residents, taking account of individual dietary needs, nutritional requirements and personal preferences.
The successful candidate will also help to ensure the kitchen operates efficiently, safely and in line with food hygiene standards. They will work closely with management and staff to maintain a high-quality dining experience for residents in a homely and caring setting.
Main responsibilities
Preparing and serving fresh, wholesome meals each day
Planning meals that are nutritious, balanced and suitable for older persons in care
Catering for special diets, modified meals and individual preferences as required
Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen
Ensuring food is stored, handled and prepared safely and correctly
Monitoring stock, rotating supplies properly and reporting shortages
Keeping accurate food hygiene and temperature records
Working as part of the wider team to support the comfort and wellbeing of residents
The ideal candidate
Will have previous experience as a chef or cook
Will have a good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards
Will be organised, reliable and able to work on their own initiative
Will have a kind, respectful and professional manner
Will understand the importance of mealtimes in a nursing home setting
Will be a strong team player with good communication skills
A food hygiene or HACCP qualification would be an advantage.
