Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Weaver or someone with strong transferable craft or production skills to join our team at Avoca Mill.
This role focuses on producing high-quality woven textiles while supporting the continued development of weaving skills within the mill. While experience in weaving is desirable, we are also open to candidates with relevant hands-on experience in textiles, crafts, manufacturing, or production environments who are interested in developing their skills in this area. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining production quality, supporting colleagues, and ensuring an efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain handlooms or power looms to produce high-quality woven textiles
Follow and implement weaving patterns, designs, and technical specifications
Select appropriate yarns, fibres, and materials for different textile products
Maintain consistent quality standards throughout the weaving process
Support loom setup including warp preparation, threading, and tension adjustments
Identify and resolve issues such as thread breakage, tension inconsistencies, or pattern defects
Support and guide junior weavers and apprentices where required
Work closely with designers and production teams to develop new patterns and fabrics
Maintain weaving equipment and contribute to a safe working environment
Work to production timelines and support delivery of targets
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience in weaving, textiles, or a hands-on craft, manufacturing, or production environment
Strong attention to detail and an interest in quality craftsmanship
Ability to follow patterns, instructions, or technical processes
Good problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable
Experience in weaving or textile production
Knowledge of traditional or heritage craft techniques
Formal training in Textile Design, Craft, or a related field
Experience working with machinery or technical equipment
