Role Description: The Development Manager is a new full-time role offering the opportunity to join PhotoIreland at an exciting moment in its development. We are an ambitious organisation with a strong commitment to photography and visual culture in Ireland and internationally.
As part of our passionate and collaborative team, the Development Manager will play an important role in shaping the future of the organisation within a dynamic, hands-on working environment. This role is suited to someone who is proactive, organised, and comfortable balancing a range of responsibilities, while contributing to projects and services valued by artists, students, researchers, and communities across Ireland and beyond.
The successful candidate will lead income generation across commercial partnerships, philanthropy, trusts, foundations, public bodies, and international funders, helping to support and grow PhotoIreland’s diverse portfolio of projects. They will also play a key role in strengthening our position as a leading organisation.
This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to help shape how we sustain and grow our work at a pivotal time, as the organisation expands its programmes, develops the International Centre for the Image, and delivers its new strategic plan.
The Candidate: The successful candidate will be an experienced manager and impact-oriented fundraiser who works collaboratively to build partnerships, develop new relationships, and increase revenue generation from a diverse range of sources, reporting directly to the Executive Director.
The post holder needs to have a track record in fundraising from a broad range of sources, with a particular emphasis on opening new opportunities. The post holder should have experience of preparing funding applications to public and private funders, as well as successfully managing relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders. The post holder will contribute to the development function with the objective of securing long-term sustainable support for PhotoIreland’s artistic, educational, and public programmes.
Terms of Employment
- Contract: Full-time, 3-year fixed term
- Salary: €50,000 per annum.
- Place of Work: International Centre for the Image with possibility of hybrid work.
- Days: 5 days per week. Any overtime provided as time-off-in-lieu.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an annual income generating strategy that reflects PhotoIreland’s new Strategic Plan, delivering on and managing philanthropic and commercial targets set with input and support from the executive.
- Identify a portfolio of potential donors, partners, and sponsors, preparing funding proposals to establish new relationships and partnerships.
- Nurture existing relationships and partnerships to advance strategic priorities, coordinating special fundraising events and ensuring regular communication.
- Identify potential sources of funding and available grants. Lead funding applications and work with and involve the executive team.
- Manage, retain, and expand our Membership scheme, working with the executive team.
- Research and identify other forms of support-in-kind eg. product / hospitality / drinks sponsorships etc.
- Prepare timely reports to funders as required, keeping accurate records of all income and expenditure regarding each funder, as required.
- Represent the organisation in key public and private events engaging with patrons, corporate supporters, funders, and other stakeholders
- Work with the whole team on income strands that constitute the funding of the company, including corporate sponsorship, public funding, as well as contributing to self generated revenue such as sales, space hire, etc.
- Prepare and manage budgets, including fundraising and project specific budgets and working with the executive team.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement and provide practical suggestions and support to implement improvements.
- Other duties as required.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Previous, demonstrable experience of working within fundraising, development, or sales, managing stakeholders.
- A demonstrable knowledge of business, finance, corporate context, philanthropy in Ireland and internationally.
- Creative and problem solving skills, with good judgement, excellent strategy and planning, and decision making abilities.
- Excellent project management skills, a proven ability in administration, time management, and ability to prioritise.
- An ability to build and maintain strong and positive working relationships, including stakeholder engagement and relationship development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and writing), ability to communicate clearly and passionately about the company and its projects, and articulate ideas with a proactive and positive attitude.
- Strong leadership and management skills and experience, including bringing a proactive ‘can do’ approach and comfortable working independently and within a team, including those across PhotoIreland and other external partners.
- Demonstrable presentation and public speaking skills and experience.
- Confident knowledge of Google Workspace is a must, as well as other software necessary to perform, such as Microsoft 365.
