Full job description

The Role:

As Health & Safety Lead/Co-Ordinator, you will be responsible for the continued development and monitoring of our health and safety systems in conjunction with the overall management team. The role will focus on ensuring compliance with company procedures and implementing the necessary programmes and systems while being the central point for day to day HS information and issues.

Location & Hours:

Main Office: Harbourville, Mornington Road, Drogheda, Co Meath,

Other locations:

Town Quays, Drogheda Co Louth
Tom Roes Point Terminal, Drogheda, Co Louth

Annualised working hours and flexibility to shipping operations required.

The Company:

Drogheda Port Company is the largest commercial regional port in Ireland, handling over 1.5 million tonnes of cargo per annum and over 900 ship movements. The Port is projecting significant future growth and is embarking on ambitious development plans over the next number of years which will see substantial investment in the ports infrastructure, handling capacity, technology, and safety systems.

Our reputation is built on high levels of customer service, flexibility, and the rapid turnaround of vessels. We offer customer-oriented logistics through a range of full-service stevedoring and cargo storage facilities. The port is located on the M1 East Coast Corridor connecting Ireland’s two largest cities, Dublin and Belfast. It is a thriving hub of economic activity with established multinational and indigenous businesses across multiple industry sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Communicate effectively throughout the company on HS issues and actively participate in management meetings.
Develop and manage HS programs, procedures, and work instructions.
Carry out HS audits and inspections and report findings
Coordinate and manage HS related training, including inductions, staff training, etc.
Support the development of job hazard and risk assessments
Maintain records and logs and prepare periodic reports for review.
Issue and track PPE requirements
Effectively communicate HS requirements to staff through meetings, toolbox talks and learn from events.
Stay up to date with regulations related to environmental, health, and safety.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions.
Implement best practices and industry standards to enhance HS performance.

Required Skills & Competencies

Effective communication skills to articulate safety procedures and regulations clearly to diverse audiences
Proficient in computer applications and MS Office.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong administrative and literacy skills for report compilation.
Attention to detail and the ability to collaborate.
A work ethic that includes a strong desire for continuous improvement.
Highly organized and details oriented.

Qualifications & Experience:

Health & Safety Qualification
Preferably 2 years of relevant work experience in a relevant operational industry.
Additional training and certifications beneficial

Pay: €45,000.00-€50,000.00 per year

Licence/Certification:

EU Driving Licence (required)
